Olaus Alvestad
Peter Olaus Alvestad (21 January 1866 – 12 October 1903) was a Norwegian educator and newspaper editor. Born in Haram, he graduated from Asker Seminary in 1888. He worked as a teacher at several schools, including Sagatun Folk High School, until 1895 when he founded Voss Folk High School together with Lars Eskeland. In 1896 he bought the local newspaper ''Hordaland'', and became editor-in-chief. In 1898 he published the songbook A song book is a book containing lyrics for songs. Song books may be simple composition books or spiral-bound notebooks. Music publishers also produced printed editions for group singing. Such volumes were used in the United States by piano manu ... Voss Folk High School ( no, Voss Folkehøgskule) is a private folk school in Voss, Norway. The school is located at the village of Seim west of Vossevangen in Hordaland. Haram, Norway
Haram is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It was part of the Sunnmøre region. The administrative center was Brattvåg, the industrial center of Sunnmøre. Other important villages in the municipality included Austnes, Eidsvik, Helle, Longva, Hildrestranda, Søvik, Tennfjord, and Vatne. Brattvåg IL is a sports club based in the municipality. Asker Seminary
Asker Seminary was a teachers' seminary at Bjerke near Tanum. Tanum is located in Bærum, which then was a part of Asker parish. The seminary was established in 1834 to educate teachers that conformed with the School Act of 1827. The education spanned two years and was free of charge. The first manager of the seminary was Knud Gislesen from 1834 to 1855, later a bishop. Several of the seminary's alumni became clergymen, politicians, academics or artists. Lars Eskeland
Lars Eskeland (6 March 1867 – 30 September 1942) was a Norwegian educator and writer, and proponent for Nynorsk. Personal life Eskeland was born at Stord as the son of farmers Øystein Larsson Eskeland and Mari Larsdotter Vatna, and was a brother of Severin Eskeland. He married Marta Nerhus in 1893. He was uncle of Ivar Eskeland. Career Eskeland co-founded the Voss Folk High School at Voss in 1895, and served as long-term principal and teacher at this school. Among his students were several later well known writers, including Tarjei Vesaas, Sjur Bygd, Tore Ørjasæter, Olav Sletto and Ragnvald Vaage. He wrote a total of about sixty books or other publications.
