Oksibil Airport
Oksibil Airport is an airport located at Oksibil, Highland Papua, Indonesia. The airport has connecting flights to with Trigana Air Service and Wings Air. The airport's runway is long and is partially marked asphalt (formerly grass) landing strip. The runway can handle Turboprop STOL aircraft but is able to handle larger Turboprop Regional airliner. There are few buildings that acts as a terminal structure as well as a small tower in the tarmac area beside the runway. Airlines and destinations Incidents On August 2, 2009, Merpati Nusantara Airlines Flight 9760 crashed on approach to the airport. On 16 August 2015 Trigana Air Flight 267 crashed on the mountain side en route to the airstrip killing all 54 on board. Pilatus PC-6 Porter
The Pilatus PC-6 Porter is a single-engined STOL utility aircraft designed by Pilatus Aircraft of Switzerland. First flown in 1959, the PC-6 was produced at Pilatus Flugzeugwerke in Stans, Switzerland. It has been built in both piston engine- and turboprop-powered versions, and was produced under licence for a time by Fairchild Hiller in the United States. Trigana Air Flight 267
Trigana Air Flight 267 was a scheduled passenger flight from Sentani to Oksibil in the eastern Indonesian province of Papua. On 16 August 2015, the ATR 42 turboprop operating the service crashed on approach in the Bintang highlands region of Oksibil, killing all 49 passengers and 5 crew members. With 54 deaths, it is the deadliest accident involving the ATR 42, and the airline's deadliest accident since its establishment in 1991. The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee published its final report into the accident in December 2017. Deviation from visual approach guidance and visual flight rules without regard to weather and terrain, and the likely deactivation of the EGPWS system contributed directly to the crash, compounded by shortcomings in Trigana Air's safety culture. Merpati Nusantara Airlines Flight 9760
Merpati Nusantara Airlines Flight 9760D was a domestic commercial passenger 50-minutes flight, flying from Sentani Airport in Papua's Province Jayapura to Oksibil Airport in Oksibil, Indonesia operated by a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300. On Sunday, August 2, 2009, while carrying fifteen people over Papua, the aircraft went missing en route. Its wreckage was found a few miles from Oksibil two days later. All 12 passengers and 3 crew members were killed in the accident. Indonesian Investigation Agency, NTSC released the final report and concluded that the cause of the crash was controlled flight into terrain (CFIT). The pilots did not maintain visual flight rules while flying below lowest safe altitude, thus impacting terrain. NTSC stated that the crash was "not survivable". STOL

Turboprop
A turboprop is a turbine engine that drives an aircraft propeller. A turboprop consists of an intake, reduction gearbox, compressor, combustor, turbine, and a propelling nozzle. Air enters the intake and is compressed by the compressor. Fuel is then added to the compressed air in the combustor, where the fuel-air mixture then combusts. The hot combustion gases expand through the turbine stages, generating power at the point of exhaust. Trigana Air (registered as Trigana Air Service) is an airline based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Oksibil, Pegunungan Bintang
Oksibil is a town and a district of Highland Papua in Indonesia that is also the administrative centre of the Pegunungan Bintang Regency. According to the 2010 census the district had a population of 4,087 inhabitants and on 2018 it increases to 4,566. The town is divided into eight villages (''desa''), with most populated one being Mabilabol with population of 1,460 in 2018 and the least populated one is Molbib Silibib with only 70 people living there according to Statistics Indonesia. Sex ratio in the district as of 2018 was 147 men for every 100 women. Other than being most populated, Mabilabol is also the most densely populated village.
