Okanagan Mainline League
The Okanagan Mainline League is a defunct senior men's ice hockey league that operated in British Columbia, Canada from 1949 to 1951. This senior league was previously an intermediate league. It was promoted in 1949. There was a serious travel problem between the teams in the Okanagan Valley and the Nanaimo Clippers on Vancouver Island. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. Okanagan Valley
The Okanagan ( ), also known as the Okanagan Valley and sometimes as the Okanagan Country, is a region in the Canadian province of British Columbia defined by the basin of Okanagan Lake and the Canadian portion of the Okanagan River. It is part of the Okanagan Country, extending into the United States as Okanogan County in north-central Washington. According to the 2016 Canadian census, the region's population is 362,258. Nanaimo Clippers (senior)
The Nanaimo Clippers are a junior ice hockey team based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Island Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Frank Crane Arena. Franchise history The original owner, Cliff McNabb, drew inspiration for the name from the local teams of the Nanaimo Minor Hockey Association who prior to 1972 as well as after, were known as the Clippers. The Nanaimo Clippers won the league championship in the 1976 playoffs but lost by default for the Mowat Cup (Provincial Championship). The Clippers were once again league champions in 1978 when the Penticton Vees refused to play the balance of the series (citing rough play – the series stood at 2 games to 1). The Merritt Centennials were earlier chosen to represent the league for the 1978 CAHA Championships. The Okanagan Senior Hockey League (OSHL) is a defunct Canadian ice hockey league that operated for 10 seasons (1951 to 1961) within the Okanagan region of British Columbia. This league is notable as it played hockey at the highest amateur level in North America. This league won two Allan Cups (1953–54 and 1955–56) and a World Championship (1955). History In 1951 the Okanagan Mainline League split up into two leagues: the Pacific Coast Senior League and the Okanagan Senior League. The Okanagan Senior League ceased its operations after the 1960-61 season. The league was then replaced by the ''Okanagan Junior Hockey League'', the precursor to the British Columbia Hockey League. In 1954, the Penticton V's of the Okanagan Senior League won the 1954 Allan Cup, as a result they were invited to represent Canada at the 1955 World Ice Hockey Championships. Kamloops Elks
Kamloops ( ) is a city in south-central British Columbia, Canada, at the confluence of the South flowing North Thompson River and the West flowing Thompson River, east of Kamloops Lake.
