Ohrekreis
The Ohrekreis was a district (''Kreis'') in the north-east of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, Stendal, Jerichower Land, the district-free city Magdeburg, Bördekreis, and the districts Helmstedt and Gifhorn in Lower Saxony. Its territory is now incorporated into Börde. History In 1680 the area of the district became part of Brandenburg, and the ''Holzkreis'' roughly covering the area of the Ohrekreis was created. In 1816 the districts were rearranged, thus the two new districts Neuhaldensleben (later renamed to Haldensleben) and Wolmirstedt were created. Except two changes in 1908 when the municipality Rothensee became part of Magdeburg, and in 1944 when Calvörde became part of Haldensleben the districts did not change until a bigger reform in 1952. Magdeburg
Magdeburg (; nds, label=Low Saxon, Meideborg ) is the capital and second-largest city of the German state Saxony-Anhalt. The city is situated at the Elbe river. Otto I, the first Holy Roman Emperor and founder of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg, was buried in the city's cathedral after his death. Magdeburg's version of German town law, known as Magdeburg rights, spread throughout Central and Eastern Europe. Bördekreis
The Bördekreis was a district ('' Kreis'') in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Ohrekreis, district-free Magdeburg, Schönebeck, Aschersleben-Staßfurt, Quedlinburg, Halberstadt and the district Helmstedt in Lower Saxony. History The district was created in 1994 when the two districts Oschersleben and Wanzleben were merged. Both precursor districts were created in 1816 under the Prussian government, and only underwent small changes in the time until their inclusion into the new district. Geography The district got its name from the landscape it is located in, the ''Magdeburger Börde''. Due to the fertile loess soil it was for long an agricultural area. The highest elevation is the Heidberg (211 m) east of Sommersdorf. Börde (district)
Börde (german: Landkreis Börde) is a district in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. Its seat is the town Haldensleben. It takes its name from the natural region Magdeburg Börde. It is the site of the Morsleben radioactive waste repository. The disposal of waste into the facility ended in 1998. Geography The Börde district covers the area west of the city of Magdeburg. With an area of , it is the second-largest district of Saxony-Anhalt. Haldensleben
Haldensleben (; Eastphalian: ''Halslä'') is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is the administrative seat of the Börde district. Geography It is situated on the Ohre river, near the confluence with its Beber tributary, and the parallel Mittelland Canal, running from the fertile Magdeburg Börde basin to the Elbe river in the east. The town centre is located approximately northwest from Magdeburg. It is connected by railway to the neighbouring towns of Magdeburg, Oebisfelde and Eilsleben. Ohre
The Ohre is a river in northern Germany, left tributary to the Elbe. Its total length is . Its source is north of Wolfsburg, in Lower Saxony. It flows generally south-east, at first following the border of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. After Buchhorst it flows completely through Saxony-Anhalt, along the Mittellandkanal. It flows into the Elbe in Rogätz, north of Magdeburg. The towns Brome, Calvörde, Haldensleben and Wolmirstedt lie along the river. The upper course of the Ohre is in the Drömling nature reserve. Between the end of the Second World War and German reunification, the Ohre separated East from West Germany and so formed part of the Inner German border. Oebisfelde () is a town and a former municipality in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Oebisfelde-Weferlingen.
