Ōhara, Chiba
was a town located in Isumi District, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Ōhara was formed on March 31, 1955 by the merger of the villages of Tōkai, Azuma and Namihana. On December 5, 2005, Ōhara was merged into the towns of Isumi (former) and Misaki (both from Isumi District), to create the city of Isumi, and thus no longer exists as an independent municipality. In November 2005 (the last data available before its merger into Isumi), the town had an estimated population of 20,518 and a population density of 308 persons per km2. Its total area was 66.61 km2. The town's economy was largely based on commercial fishing. was a town located in Aida District, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 4,630 and a density of 84.99 persons per km². The total area was 54.48 km². On March 31, 2005, Ōhara, along with the towns of Mimasaka, Aida and Sakutō, the village of Higashiawakura (all from Aida District), and the town of Katsuta (from Katsuta District), was merged to create the city of Mimasaka. Ohara-ryū
is a school of ''Ikebana'', or Japanese floral art. History Ohara Unshin (小原雲心) (1861–1916) started his own Ikebana school in 1895 when Japan opened up its economy to the West and began to import European flowers. The official founding date was in 1912. For the purpose of this art form, he developed shallow, circular, ceramic vases, which became known as the ''moribana'' style. Ohara's son Koun (小原光雲) (1880–1938) invented a descriptive teaching method and moved from individual lessons to group classes. For the first time, teaching certificates were awarded to women. Under Houn's guidance, the school grew. Its headquarters were in Tokyo and Kobe, with other centers in New York and São Paulo. The in Kurashiki was the first collection of Western art to be permanently exhibited in Japan. The museum opened in 1930 and originally consisted almost entirely of French paintings and sculptures of the 19th and 20th centuries.
