Tosca (band)
Tosca are an Austrian music group consisting of Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber. This is Dorfmeister's second such project, the first being Kruder & Dorfmeister. Tosca's first album, ''Opera'', was released in 1997 by G-Stone Recordings. History Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber first met in school, and began experimenting with tape machines, Indian music, and poetry lyrics, under the name of Dehli9. After school, Dorfmeister and Huber went their separate ways: Dorfmeister began producing and DJing with Peter Kruder, and Huber worked in the experimental music scene. The name is an abbreviation of the company's original Berlin address, Kaiserdamm 7 (it has since relocated, first to Heidestrasse 52, and currently headquartered at Gerichtstrasse 35). !K7 has since opened branch offices in New York City and London. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Kruder & Dorfmeister, named after members Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister, is an Austrian duo, known for their trip hop/downtempo remixes of pop, hip hop and drum and bass songs. Career In 1993, they released their first EP '' G-Stoned'' featuring the hypnotic "High Noon" and a cover resembling Simon & Garfunkel's '' Bookends'' to critical acclaim especially from the UK. Gilles Peterson played the track at first on his BBC show ''Worldwide''. Rupert W.M. Huber (born 1967 in Mödling, Austria) is an Austrian composer and musician. In 1994, Huber founded ''Huber Musik'' to publish his own music, and in the same year, founded Tosca with Richard Dorfmeister. The Walkabouts were an United States, American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington (U.S. state), Washington in 1984. The core members were vocalist Carla Torgerson and vocalist and songwriter Chris Eckman. Rodney Hunter (1933–2006) was an English canon in the Anglican Church, serving as Chaplain at Wadham College, Oxford, Wadham College, Oxford (1962-1965), and Priest-Librarian at Pusey House, Oxford, Pusey House (1961-1965). He was educated at Leighton Park School and Oxford University. Much of his career was spent in Southern Africa, where he taught at St John the Evangelist Anglican Seminary in Zambia (1965-1974), and worked in Malawi from 1974 until his death in 2006. Hunter was a staunch supporter of traditional religious and theological views within the Anglican Communion, and it has been suggested that he was murdered by poison after a dispute over the appointment of a socially liberal Bishop to the See of Lake Malawi. ''Tosca'' is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It premiered at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Costanzi in Rome on 14 January 1900. The work, based on Victorien Sardou's 1887 French-language dramatic play, ''La Tosca'', is a melodramatic piece set in Rome in June 1800, with the Kingdom of Naples's control of Rome threatened by Napoleon's Campaigns of 1800 in the French Revolutionary Wars#Italy, invasion of Italy. It contains depictions of torture, murder, and suicide, as well as some of Puccini's best-known lyrical arias. Puccini saw Sardou's play when it was touring Italy in 1889 and, after some vacillation, obtained the rights to turn the work into an opera in 1895. Turning the wordy French play into a succinct Italian opera took four years, during which the composer repeatedly argued with his librettists and publisher.
