Oceania Netball Federation ...
The Oceania Netball Federation is the regional body within the International Federation of Netball Associations that governs netball across Oceania. The current president is Wainikiti Bogidrau from Fiji. There are currently twenty four countries within the Oceania region. There are seven full members with New Zealand the only one with elite status. Realistically only thirteen nations, predominantly Commonwealth nations, play the game. Competitions in the region include the Pacific Netball Series, Pacific Games, Pacific Mini Games and the Arafura Games. Wainikiti Bogidrau
Wainikiti (Kiti) Bogidrau is a former president of the Fiji Netball Association (2010-2020), current president of the Oceania Netball Federation and a board member of World Netball. Early life Bogidrau is a Fijian. She obtained a BA in sociology in 2000, specializing in population studies and demography, from the University of the South Pacific in Suva, capital of Fiji, where she won four gold medals on graduation, including the Vice-Chancellor's gold medal for the most outstanding academic and community service record for a female student. She obtained an MA in Pacific Island Studies from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in Honolulu in 2004. She later received a post-graduate diploma in public administration from the same university. World Netball, previously known as the International Netball Federation and the International Federation of Netball Associations, is the worldwide governing body for Netball. New Zealand National Netball Team
The New Zealand national netball team, commonly known as the Silver Ferns, represent New Zealand in international netball. The team take their nickname from the Silver Tree Fern (''Cyathea dealbata''), which is an emblem for many New Zealand sports teams. The Silver Ferns were formed in 1938 as a representative New Zealand team to tour Australia. To date, they have been one of the most dominant national netball teams in the world, along with Australia, and have a winning record against most other netball nations. The Silver Ferns are current world champions and ranked second in the INF World Rankings, behind Australia. Pacific Netball Series
The Pacific Netball Series is an annual netball competition organised by the Oceania Netball Federation. This is played by the top four non elite teams in the INF World Rankings. The first competition was hosted by Samoa in 2009. Cook Islands won the inaugural tournament with hosts Samoa second. Papua New Guinea was third. Fiji pulled out of the event. The second competition was held in the Cook Islands in 2010. Fiji were the winners over Samoa. Hosts Cook Islands took third with Papua New Guinea fourth. The third competition was held in Papua New Guinea in 2011. Fiji again were the winners over Cook Islands. Netball At The Pacific Games
Netball at the Pacific Games (previously known as the South Pacific Games) has been an optional Pacific Games sport since 1963. Fiji have been the tournament's most successful team, winning seven gold medals. Cook Islands have won four gold medals. To date, only the Cook Islands and Fiji have won netball gold at the Pacific Games. Netball was originally scheduled as a medal sport for the 1969 South Pacific Games in Port Moresby, however, due to the sport having only two entries, a prize instead was awarded to the winner. Arafura Games
The Arafura Games is a unique, inclusive multi-sport event where athletes with a disability compete in the same program as able-bodied athletes. Competitors from around the world compete in the week-long games held every 2 years in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Called a ''"meeting of Sporting Neighbours"'', the Arafura Games takes its name from the Arafura Sea, which lies between northern Australia and Southeast Asia. Nations along the Arafura Sea originally formed the basis of the Arafura Games, however in recent years countries from further afield have participated, including United States, England, Brazil and Liechtenstein.
