It was released as part of the film soundtrack album '' Oblivion: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack'' to accompany the film of the same name. It was composed by Anthony Gonzalez. Composition "Oblivion" has been classified as a "soaring ballad" that features "interstellar synths and cloud-surfing lead vocals" amidst a mixture of "M83′s dream pop ndmore traditional string and horn arrangements." ''Rolling Stone'' observed that the song is "capped with a jazzy instrumental section, just like M83's 2011 hit Midnight City", while it reminded ''Consequence of Sound'' of "Tangerine Dream’s scores from the '80s". Featuring Sundfør's "booming vocals," the song's choir repeats "In the night, you'll hear me calling" over a "bombastic synth swell."" Oblivion Records
Oblivion Records is an independent American record label that focuses on under recorded blues and jazz musicians. The company was originally based in Huntington, New York and the WKCR-FM studios at Columbia University in New York City, with a post office box (Box X) in Roslyn Heights, New York from 1972–1976. It now operates out of Los Angeles. After almost 50 years, Oblivion announced a new release in November 2021. History The company was formed based on a casual conversation between Long Island, New York hippie record shop co-owner, musician, and blues scholar Tom Pomposello, and college student, former musician, and amateur recording engineer Fred Seibert, when Pomposello was musing about the best way to record and release his band's music. Seibert suggested a major label was a thing of the past and the way of the future was that Pomposello should record himself. The two quickly formed a partnership. Seibert hosted a Columbia University, WKCR-FM radio show, and had reco ...

Oblivion (Grimes Song)
"Oblivion" is a song by Canadian musician Grimes from her third studio album, ''Visions (Grimes album), Visions'' (2012). It was released as a promotional single in 2012 by 4AD. Creation In an April 2012 interview with Jacinda Govind for ''Music Feeds'', Boucher explained that the song is about a violent assault: It made me crazy for a few years. I got really paranoid walking around at night and started feeling really unsafe. The song is more about empowering myself physically amongst a masculine power, and the hate of feeling powerless, making light of masculine physical power, making it jovial and non-threatening. I took a typically violent cultural situation and made it pop and happy. Chandler Levack for ''Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CBC'' in 2020 and Caz Tran for ''Australian Broadcasting Corporation, ABC'' in 2022 have reported on Grimes' sexual assault, with Tran writing that "as a survivor of a violent sexual assault, 'Oblivion' was the result of [Grimes'] most deter ...

Release and reception On 28 March 1994, "Oblivion" was issued as the lead single from ''How to Make Friends and Influence People''. When the album was released on 18 April 1994, "Oblivion" appeared as the second track. According to AllMusic reviewer Leslie Mathew, the song is a satirical critique on "squatter hippies".
