Oblivion (Terrorvision Song)
"Oblivion" is a song by English rock band Terrorvision. Written by the band and produced by Gil Norton, the song was included as the second track on the band's second studio album, ''How to Make Friends and Influence People'' (1994). Like most Terrorvision songs, "Oblivion" contains political themes, but according to bass player Leigh Marklew, the messages were not taken seriously because of the song's doo-wop chorus. Released as the album's first single on 28 March 1994, the song peaked at number 21 on the UK Singles Chart and number 65 in Australia. Release and reception On 28 March 1994, "Oblivion" was issued as the lead single from ''How to Make Friends and Influence People''. When the album was released on 18 April 1994, "Oblivion" appeared as the second track. According to AllMusic reviewer Leslie Mathew, the song is a satirical critique on "squatter hippies". ''How to Make Friends and Influence People'' is the second album by the rock band Terrorvision, released in 1994 on Total Vegas Recordings. "Oblivion", " Middleman", "Pretend Best Friend", "Alice What's the Matter", and "Some People Say" were all released as singles. The title refers to the Dale Carnegie book ''How to Win Friends and Influence People''. The album was recorded in 17 days. Production ''How to Make Friends and Influence People'' was recorded with producer Gil Norton and engineer Al Clay; they were assisted by engineer Mike Cyr. Norton and Chris Sheldon mixed the album at The Church in London, with assistance from Elliot Ness and John McDonnell. Anniversary tours The 15th anniversary of the release of the album was commemorated by tours in April and December 2009, whereby the band played the entire album from start to finish; the first time the album has been played live in its entirety. Tony Wright (musician)
Tony Wright (born 6 May 1968) is a British musician who is the lead singer of the British band Terrorvision and also the band Laika Dog. Early life Wright was born in Bradford to David Wright who was the owner of a Gallery in Bradford that showcased local artists. Originally wanting to become a Designer, Wright was convinced to take a Youth Training Scheme at a local printing firm. He met the other founding members of Terrorvision whilst working as a glass collector and barman in a local pub and the band began their music career as The Spoilt Bratz. Solo career In March 2014, Wright announced a solo acoustic project. In September 2014 he released his debut solo album ''Thoughts 'N' All''. Chris Sheldon (born 25 September 1962) is an English record producer, particularly of rock music based in London, England. He has produced or mixed records for the Foo Fighters, Garbage, Big Country, Feeder, Therapy?, Biffy Clyro, Oceansize, Pixies and Shed 7. He lives in London, is married and has two daughters. "Das Model" ("The Model" in English) is a song recorded by the German group Kraftwerk in 1978, written by musicians Ralf Hütter and Karl Bartos, with artist Emil Schult collaborating on the lyrics. It is featured on the album, ''Die Mensch-Maschine'' (known in international versions as ''The Man-Machine''). In 1981 the song was re-released coinciding with the release from then studio album ''Computerwelt'' (Computer World in English). It reached no. 1 in UK Singles Chart. Both the German and English versions of the song have been covered by other artists, including Snakefinger, Hikashu, Big Black and Robert. Background The lyrics were written by Emil Schult, who was in love with a model when he wrote the song.
