Obidos (software)
Obidos was the name used by Amazon.com for their original page rendering engine, and appears in many of their URLs such as https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596515162. Obidos was phased out in 2006 and replaced by the Gurupa engine. Amazon.com subsequently used the name for their building at 551 Boren Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109, United States. It was named after the town of Óbidos in Brazil near the swiftest point on the Amazon River, which is in turn named after the town of Óbidos, Portugal. Amazon Standard Identification Number
An Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) is a 10-character alphanumeric unique identifier assigned by Amazon.com and its partners for product identification within the Amazon organization. They were originated in 1996 by Rebecca Allen, an Amazon software engineer, when it became clear that Amazon was going to sell products other than just books. The 10-character format of the ASIN was adopted so that Amazon databases and software, which were designed to expect a 10-character International Standard Book Number (ISBN) field, would not have to be changed to accommodate the new identification format. Usage and structure Each product sold on Amazon.com is given a unique ASIN. For books with a 10-digit International Standard Book Number (ISBN), the ASIN and the ISBN are the same. The Kindle edition of a book will not use its ISBN as the ASIN, although the electronic version of a book may have its own ISBN. Óbidos is a municipality in Pará, Brazil located at the narrowest and swiftest part of the Amazon River. The town was founded in 1697, and is located between Santarém and Oriximiná. It is the seat of the Diocese of Óbidos. The town was named after Óbidos, Portugal. Amazon River
The Amazon River (, ; es, Río Amazonas, pt, Rio Amazonas) in South America is the largest river by discharge volume of water in the world, and the disputed longest river system in the world in comparison to the Nile. The headwaters of the Apurímac River on Nevado Mismi had been considered for nearly a century as the Amazon basin's most distant source, until a 2014 study found it to be the headwaters of the Mantaro River on the Cordillera Rumi Cruz in Peru. Óbidos (; cel-x-proto, Eburobrittium) is a town ( pt, List of Towns of Portugal, vila) and a municipality in the Oeste Subregion, Oeste region, historical province of Estremadura Province (1936-1976), Estremadura, and the Leiria District, Leiria district.
