OTI Festival 1976
The OTI Festival 1976 is the fifth edition of the annual OTI Festival. It took place in Acapulco, Mexico, following the country's victory at the 1975 contest with the song "La felicidad" by Gualberto Castro. Organised by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Televisa, the contest was held at the Ruiz de Alarcon Theatre on Saturday 30 October 1976 and was hosted by Raúl Velasco and Susana Dosamantes. It was the second time that Raúl Velasco had hosted the event, as he also hosted the 1974 contest at the same venue, making him the first person to host the contest twice. As happened in the previous two years, the festival repeated the record of 19 participating countries with their respective broadcasters and performers established back in the same city in 1974. Bolivia In The OTI Festival
Bolivia debuted in the OTI Festival in 1972 and since then, the country participated uninterruptedly till the last edition of the show in 2000. Bolivia is one of the least lucky countries participating in the event. In fact, Bolivisión and Televisión Boliviana, the two Bolivian OTI full member stations only managed to enter the top 10 on two occasions: The first one in Madrid 1972 with Arturo Quesada and his entry "No volveré a pasar por allí" (I won't pass by there again) composed by the Spaniards Manuel De la Calva and Ramón Arcusa, (Members of Dúo Dinámico). United States In The OTI Festival
Univision, formerly SIN (Spanish International Network), the biggest Spanish speaking TV channel of the US, was the OTI member station that organised the American participation in the OTI Festival. The network, whose main audience was the Spanish speaking community of the United States, debuted in the contest in 1974 in Acapulco with Rosita Perú and her song "Pero...mi tierra" (But... my homeland), which ended in the 17th place. Although the American broadcaster withdrawed from the event some years after its debut, Univision returned to the event and participated till the last edition in 2000 which was held again in Acapulco. Venezuela In The OTI Festival
Venezuela with their three OTI member stations: RCTV, Venevisión and Venezolana de Televisión debuted in the OTI Song Contest in 1972 in Madrid when the festival was held for the first time. History This country won the festival on two occasions, the first one in 1982 with the teenage boy band Unicornio performing the song "Puedes contar conmigo" (You can count on me). The second Venezuelan victory came in 1987 in Lisbon with Alfredo Alejandro, who performed the song "La felicidad esá en un rincón de tu corazón" (The happiness is inside a corner of your heart). Telenovela
A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. Venevisión () is a Venezuelan free-to-air television channel and one of Venezuela's largest television networks, owned by the Cisneros Media division of Grupo Cisneros.
