OFono
oFono is a free software project for mobile telephony (GSM/UMTS) applications. It is built on 3GPP standards and uses a high-level D-Bus API for use by telephony applications. oFono is free software released under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2. History oFono was jointly announced for Linux by Intel and Nokia on . Nokia has since shipped oFono with the MeeGo-based N9. After the MeeGo project ended, Intel collaborated with Samsung on a new Linux-based project named Tizen. The first release of Tizen contained another telephony stack but in 2012 they announced to replace that with oFono. In early 2013 Canonical Ltd announced Ubuntu Touch which also uses oFono. As another successor project to MeeGo, Sailfish OS also uses oFono for telephony. Since version 1.4 (released in August 2016), NetworkManager can use oFono as a modem manager. PipeWire
PipeWire is a server for handling audio, video streams, and hardware on Linux. It was created by Wim Taymans at Red Hat. It handles multimedia routing and pipeline processing. History In 2015, Taymans started work on PipeWire. It was based on ideas from a couple of projects, including one called PulseVideo by William Manley. According to Red Hat's Christian Schaller, it drew many of its ideas from an early PulseVideo prototype by Manley and builds upon some of the code that was merged into GStreamer due to that effort. A goal was to improve handling of video on Linux the same way PulseAudio improved handling of audio. Sailfish OS
Sailfish OS is a Linux-based operating system based on free software, and open source projects such as Mer as well as including a closed source UI. The project is being developed by the Finnish company Jolla. The OS first shipped with the original Jolla Phone in 2013 (its sale stopped in 2016, but it was supplied with software updates until the end of 2020), then the Jolla Tablet in 2015 and from other vendors licensing the OS. Ubuntu Touch
Ubuntu Touch is a mobile version of the Ubuntu operating system, being developed by the UBports community. Its user interface is written in Qt, and is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, but the original goal of convergence was intended to bring Ubuntu Touch to laptops, desktops, IOT devices and TVs for a complete unified user experience. The project was started by Canonical Ltd. but Mark Shuttleworth announced that Canonical would terminate support due to lack of market interest on 5 April 2017.
