Nova Bossa Nova
Nova Bossa Nova was a Brazilian jazz ensemble consisting of Claudio Roditi on trumpet, Bob Mintzer on tenor sax, Joe Ford (jazz musician), Joe Ford on alto sax, and Eddie Monteiro on vocals. They released one album in 1997, ''Jazz Influence''. The first new Marcos Valle album available worldwide since the late 1960s, Nova Bossa Nova was a return to form. Much more than his superstar Brazilian contemporaries like Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, Valle was up on trends in the dance community. Claudio Roditi
Claudio Roditi (May 28, 1946 – January 17, 2020) was a Brazilian jazz trumpeter. In 1966 Claudio was named a trumpet finalist at the International Jazz Competition in Vienna, Austria. While in Vienna, Roditi met Art Farmer, one of his idols, and the friendship inspired the younger trumpeter to follow a career in jazz. Roditi came to America in 1970 to study at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. In 1976 he moved to New York City, where he played with Herbie Mann and Charlie Rouse. In the 1980s he worked with Paquito D'Rivera. He was a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. Roditi received a 52nd Annual Grammy Awards (2009) nomination in the category Best Latin Jazz Album for ''Brazillance X 4''. He was also the featured soloist on ''Atras Da Porta'' from ''Symphonic Bossa Nova'' (Ettore Stratta conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), for which Jorge Calandrelli received an arranger nomination at the 38th Annual Grammy Awards (1995). Bob Mintzer
Robert Alan Mintzer (born January 27, 1953) is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, arranger, and big band leader. Early life Mintzer was born and raised in a Jewish family in New Rochelle, New York, on January 27, 1953. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan from 1969 to 1970, then was at the Hartt School of Music, Hartford, Connecticut for two years, before attending the Manhattan School of Music from 1972 to 1974. Later life and career Early in his career, Mintzer played in various big bands, including those led by Buddy Rich (1975–77), Thad Jones and Mel Lewis (1977–79), and Sam Jones (1978–80). While with Rich, he began writing big band music, and has since composed and arranged hundreds of pieces. Joe Ford (jazz Musician)
Joe Ford (born May 7, 1947) is an American jazz saxophonist. Early life and education Ford was born in Buffalo, New York. He studied saxophone under Makanda Ken McIntyre, Jackie McLean, and Frank Foster, and percussion under Joe Chambers. He earned his bachelor's degree in music education in 1968 from Central State University. Career After graduating from college, Ford taught in Buffalo Public Schools from 1968 to 1972. While working at the Buffalo Public Library in 1974 and 1975, Ford played in the Birthright Ensemble, then with McCoy Tyner in 1976. Arkadia Jazz
Arkadia Records is an independent record label that was founded in 1996. The label was founded in New York City by Bob Karcy, who had been a manager for musicians and an independent record producer. The first release was Billy Taylor's ''Music Keeps Us Young'', in 1997. From the first releases, the session leaders were allowed to select the other musicians and the material. Writers of early liner notes included Stanley Crouch, Ira Gitler, and Nat Hentoff. Arkadia acquired the catalog of Postcards Records in 1999. The original label was Arkadia Jazz, on which 20 albums had been released by early 2000. The sub-label Arkadia Chansons is used for licensed re-releases of French recordings by performers such as Josephine Baker and Edith Piaf. By 2022, Arkadia had released more than 100 albums.
