Northside Wizards
Northside Wizards is a NBL1 North club based in Brisbane, Queensland. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 North. The club is a division of Northside Basketball Inc., the major administrative basketball organisation in northern Brisbane. The Wizards play their home games at South Pine Sports Complex. Club history Northside Basketball's history stems back to 1935 when the Brisbane Women's Basketball Club was formed. In 1951 the name was changed to Brisbane Men's and Women's Basketball and in 1990 it became known as the Brisbane Community Basketball Association. In 1993, the club began trading as the Brisbane Wizards. Competing in the Queensland Basketball League (QBL), the club became known as Northside Wizards in 2003. In 2010, the women's team reached the QBL grand final, where they lost to the Gladstone Port City Power. The Wizards left the QBL after the 2015 season. NBL1 North, formerly the Queensland Basketball League (QBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Queensland partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Queensland. NBL1 replaced the former QBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Queensland. As a result, the QBL became the north conference of NBL1. In 2022, the league will expanded into the Northern Territory with a club from Darwin. History The league was formed in 1986 as the Queensland State Basketball League. Gladstone Port City Power
Gladstone Port City Power is a Queensland State League (QSL) basketball club based in Gladstone, Queensland. The club fields a team in both the Men's QSL and Women's QSL in the 2021 competition. The club is a division of Gladstone Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Power play their home games at Kev Broome Stadium. Club history The Power entered the Queensland Australian Basketball League (QABL) in 2004, fielding both a men's and women's team. They replaced the departing Tweed Coast Slammers in the Southern Cross Division. In 2009, the Power women had a massive year to become champions for the first time in club history. Some excellent recruiting and a lot of belief enabled the Power to defeat the South West Metro Pirates 102–98 in overtime in the grand final. 2015 Queensland Basketball League Season
The 2015 Men's Queensland Basketball League season was the 30th running of the competition. The Mackay Meteors won the championship in 2015 to claim their third league title. 2021 NBL1 Season
The 2021 NBL1 season was the second season of the NBL1 after the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With North and Central conferences introduced in 2020 alongside the South Conference, the NBL1 expanded further in 2021 with the inclusion of a West Conference. The 2021 season was the first to consist of multiple conferences and National participation, however the continued impact of the pandemic led to a disrupted and incomplete end to the season. 2023 NBL1 Season
The 2023 NBL1 season was the fourth season of the NBL1. The season consisted of five conferences: South, North, Central, West and East. The second annual National Finals were held in Perth, with both NBL1 National champions coming from the South Conference, with the Bendigo Braves in the women and the Knox Raiders in the men. Background The NBL1 had expanded in 2022 with the East Conference introduced alongside the South, North, Central and West. No further expansion occurred in 2023.
