Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986)
The Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1886 to 1986. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and North West Football Union representing the rest of the state. It was based in the city of Launceston. The three most successful clubs of the old NTFA, Launceston, North Launceston and City-South, went on to compete in the short-lived TFL Statewide League. From 1947 to 1983 the NTFA was a six team competition, in 1984 George Town and Deloraine joined to make eight teams. In 1987, the NTFA merged with the North West Football Union to form the Northern Tasmanian Football League. At the end of 1995 the Tasmanian Amateur Football Association disbanded, The southern clubs help form the Southern Football League, The northern clubs formed a competition called the Northern Tasmanian Football Association. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Bill Cahill (Australian Footballer)
Keyran William Jack Cahill (3 December 1911 – 7 March 1966) was a sportsman who played Australian rules football for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1930s and represented Tasmania at first-class cricket. Cahill, a half back, won two Tasman Shields Trophies while at Northern Tasmanian Football Association club Launceston, in 1933 and 1936. He struggled in his two seasons at Essendon due to a shoulder injury and returned to Launceston in 1939 where he was appointed captain-coach. He had earlier made four first-class appearances with Tasmania in the 1931–32 season. One of those was against the touring South African team and he took the only wicket of his career when he dismissed all-rounder Quintin McMillan. Paul Reinmuth

Grant Allford
Grant Allford (born 5 December 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond in the Victorian Football League The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It ... (VFL) during the early 1970s. Allford, a defender, came to the VFL from Tasmanian club Latrobe. He made his debut in round 15 and played every game for the rest of the year, including the Preliminary Final loss to St Kilda. Over the next two seasons, he added 20 more games but was unable to establish a place in the team. Later in the decade, Allford played at Launceston and won the 1980 Hec Smith Memorial Medal as the best and fairest player in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association. Ian Marsh (footballer)
Ian Marsh (23 October 1955 – 28 May 2021) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). After sporadic appearances in his first two seasons, Marsh was a regular on the wing for Essendon from 1978 to 1980. He was unable to play at Essendon in 1981 due to heart problems and had to have open heart surgery in July that year. The following month he returned to training but despite making the reserves he could not break back into the VFL side. Marsh however continued to play district football at Aberfeldie and spent the 1985 season with South Bendigo, his last year before retiring. Derek Peardon
Derek Peardon (born 24 September 1950) is a former Australian rules football player who played in the VFL between 1968 and 1971 for the Richmond Football Club. At the age of five Peardon and his sister Annette were taken from their family on Cape Barren Island and placed in orphanages in Launceston. A champion schoolboy footballer and gifted professional runner, Peardon was the first indigenous footballer to play for the Tigers. Selected in the 1965 All-Australian Schoolboys' team, he played in the 1966 Richmond Fourths premiership side as well as the 1967 Under 19s premiership and 1971 Reserves premiership, his last game for the club. Returning to Tasmania in 1972, Peardon played six seasons for City South, including premierships in 1972 and 1974. John Burns (Australian Rules Footballer)
John Burns (born 10 August 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1970s. Prior to joining North Melbourne, Burns played with East Launceston in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association with whom he won both the competition and club best and fairest in 1969. Barry Lawrence
Barry K. Lawrence (born 13 February 1946) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and for Longford in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA). Barry played as a forward for Longford in Tasmania and signed to play with Hawthorn in 1967 but he decided to stay in Tasmania for two more years. He was selected as a back pocket in the St Kilda Team of the Century and on the half back flank in the Tasmanian Team of the Century. Later he returned to the forward line. John Fitzallen
John Douglas Fitzallen (13 November 1934 – 11 October 2017) was an Australian rules footballer who played in Tasmania during the 1950s and 1960s. He represented the state several times in interstate matches including the Brisbane Carnival in 1961. He was inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame in 2006. Terry Cashion
Terence Robert Cashion (7 April 1921 – 8 October 2011) was an award-winning Australian rules footballer from Tasmania who played numerous representative matches for the state and also played for South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Early life and junior career Terry was born to parents Albert and Mary Cashion (née Clements) in April 1921 when the family lived in Goulburn Street, North Hobart. Cashion first began to come under notice as a player during his junior career with Buckingham.
