Northeast Jones High School (NEJ) is a State school#United States, public secondary school, high school located in Jones County, Mississippi, United States, near the city of Laurel, Mississippi, Laurel. Northeast Jones serves students in grades 7 through 12 and is one of three traditional high schools in the Jones County School District (Mississippi), Jones County School District. After school integration in the United States, a black student was hanged in a bathroom and suffered non-fatal injuries. Laurel, Mississippi
Laurel is a city in and the second county seat of Jones County, Mississippi, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 17,161. It is located northeast of Ellisville, the first county seat, which contains the first county courthouse. Laurel has the second county courthouse as there are two judicial districts in Jones County. Jones County, Mississippi
Jones County is in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census, the population was 67,246. Its county seats are Laurel and Ellisville. Jones County is part of the Laurel micropolitan area. History Less than a decade after Mississippi became the country's 20th state, settlers organized this area of of pine forests and swamps for a new county in 1826. The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) is the official sanctioning body of all public and some private junior high and high school academic and athletic competitions in the state of Mississippi. It is a non-profit organization and is headquartered in Clinton, Mississippi. The MHSAA is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
