North Toronto Nitros is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Toronto, Ontario. The club was founded in 1980 as a youth soccer club and added its men's semi-professional club in League1 Ontario in 2016 and it's women's team in the League1 Ontario women's division in 2021. History The club was founded in 1980 as a youth soccer club. They updated the club logo in 2019, combining the club logo and Nitros team logo. Originally a youth soccer club, the team added a men's semi-professional team in League1 Ontario in 2016, playing their home games at the University of Toronto's Varsity Stadium. They played their inaugural match on April 30, 2016, on the road against Vaughan Azzurri, which they lost by a score of 2–1. They defeated Aurora United by a score of 5–0 in their home debut. Downsview Park is a large urban park located in the Downsview neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The park's name is officially bilingual due to it being federally owned and managed, and was first home to de Havilland Canada, an aircraft manufacturer, and later was a Canadian Forces base. 2018 League1 Ontario Season
The 2018 Men's League1 Ontario season was the fifth season of play for League1 Ontario, a Division 3 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. Vaughan Azzurri won the league championship and earned entry into the 2019 Canadian Championship; the top national tournament for men's soccer teams. Vaughan captured the league double for a second time by also winning the L1 Cup, a feat they first achieved in 2016. FC London finished the season with the best regular season record, earning 38 points in 16 games. Olivia Smith (born August 5, 2004) is a Canadian soccer player who plays as a midfielder for North Toronto Nitros in League1 Ontario and college soccer with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Early life Smith was born in North York, Ontario, but grew up in Whitby. She first played house league with the Whitby Soccer Club, before playing at the competitive level with Oshawa Kicks SC, Ajax SC, Markham FC and then North Toronto SC. Kembo Kibato (born September 16, 2000) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as an attacking midfielder for USL Championship side Hartford Athletic. 2022 Women's League1 Ontario Season
The 2022 League1 Ontario season is the seventh season of play for Women's Division of League1 Ontario, a Division 3 women's soccer league in the Canadian soccer league system and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. NDC Ontario defeated Alliance United FC in the final to win the league championship. As NDC Ontario was unavailable to participate in the League1 Canada Interprovincial Championship due to scheduling issues, Alliance United instead represented the league, finishing in third place. The 2021 League1 Ontario season was the sixth season of play (the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic) for the Women's Division of League1 Ontario, a Division 3 women's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. The league announced a projected start date of July 2, 2021, also announcing a 'drop-dead date' of June 7, 2021 that will confirm the start of the season on that date depending on restrictions in the province, otherwise the season would be cancelled. Format The league will be played in a single table of 7 teams, playing a total of 12 matches, with the top four clubs advancing to the playoffs.
