Nordic Network For Music Education
The Nordic Network for Music Education (NNME) is a state-sponsored organization that supports professionalization of music teacher education across eight countries in Northern Europe. It includes the 18 institutions in the Nordic and Baltic states that award professional postgraduate (Master) degrees in the specialized field of music education. Network activities Sponsored by the Nordplus program of the Nordic Council of Ministers, for over 20 years the NNME has annually offered an intensive joint Master course for ECTS credits, and supported 'mobility' exchange of music lecturers and Master students across the member institutions, enabling the sharing of research-based knowledge in this field. Iceland

International Society For Music Education
The International Society for Music Education (ISME) is a professional organization of persons involved with music education. It was founded in Brussels in 1953 during the UNESCO-sponsored conference on "The Role and Place of Music in the Education of Youth and Adults". ISME's mission is to build a worldwide network of music educators, to advocate music education globally and across the lifespan, and to foster intercultural understanding and cooperation. Activities ISME holds conferences every two years in a different part of the world and include workshops, paper presentations, keynote addresses, symposia, and performances. European Music Council
The European Music Council (EMC) is a regional group of the International Music Council (IMC) representing Europe. It was established in 1972 as the 'European regional group of the IMC' and was renamed the European Music Council in 1992. The IMC was founded by UNESCO in 1949, and is, today, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), which still retains formal relations with UNESCO. Until 2000 the secretariat was based in Aarau, Switzerland, and is now in Bonn, Germany. The EMC functions as a non-governmental advisory body on musical matters. The European Association of Conservatoires (AEC) is the main association of colleges and university schools of music in Europe and represents the interests of institutions that are concerned with training for the music profession. It is abbreviated to and commonly known as the AEC, initials of its original French name, the ''Association Européenne des Conservatoires''. Lately the name was extended to become the ''Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen'' hence officially including the German music academies too, an important part of the network. Helga Rut Guðmundsdóttir
Helga Rut Guðmundsdóttir is a professor of music education at the University of Iceland School of Education. Education Helga Rut Guðmundsdóttir was born in Reykjavík in 1970. She passed the Icelandic matriculation examination from Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð in 1989 and graduated with a B.Ed degree from the Iceland University of Education in 1992, specialising in music. Helga Rut learned the piano from a young age. She was taught by Jónas Ingimundarson at the Reykjavík College of Music and later by Jónas Sen, Þorsteinn Gauti Sigurðsson and finally Margaret Etienne at the McGill Conservatory in Montreal. Helga Rut completed an MA in music education from the School of Music at McGill University in 1997 and a Ph.D in the same subject from the same university in 2003.
