No Person Is Illegal
No one is illegal is a loosely connected international network, which advocates for refugees and migrants present in a country unlawfully. Activists in the network take initiatives in favor of migrants who stay in a country illegally and are at risk of deportation. The network has started a campaign and held rallies to bring wider attention to the situation of refugees. The campaign initially began in Germany as No Person Is Illegal (German: ''Kein Mensch ist illegal'' or ''kmii'') and has spread to other countries, including Canada and Belgium. No one is illegal questions the idea of citizenship as a legal condition for access to and participation in the socio-political sphere. Harsha Walia
Harsha Walia is a Canadian activist and writer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has been involved with No one is illegal, the February 14 Women's Memorial March Committee, the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre, and several Downtown Eastside housing justice coalitions. Walia has been active in migrant justice, Indigenous solidarity, feminist, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist movements for over a decade. In January 2020, Walia was hired as the new executive director of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association. In July 2021, Walia controversially tweeted "Burn it all down" following several church arson attacks. Aamir Ageeb
Amir Ageeb or Aamir Ageeb (c. 1968 or 1969 – 28 May 1999) was a Sudanese who was killed while resisting deportation from Germany, leading to a lawsuit against the involved officers. At Frankfurt Airport, Ageeb physically resisted the three Bundesgrenzschutz officers who escorted him onto Lufthansa Flight 588 travelling to Sudan on 28 May 1999. They restrained him with several ropes, handcuffs and bands; put a helmet on his head; leaned on his chest; and pushed his head between his knees, apparently all in accordance with procedures in use at the time. Ageeb suffocated and was found to be dead shortly after the aircraft took off. The three officers were charged with voluntary manslaughter (german: Körperverletzung mit Todesfolge, literally 'bodily harm with fatality') and found responsible for the death. Kassel (; in Germany, spelled Cassel until 1926) is a city on the Fulda River in northern Hesse, Germany.
