A travel class is a quality of accommodation on public transport. The accommodation could be a seat or a cabin for example. Higher travel classes are designed to be more comfortable and are typically more expensive. Airlines Traditionally, an airliner is divided into, from the fore to aft, first, business, and economy classes, sometimes referred to as cabins. In recent years, some airlines have added a premium economy class as an intermediate class between economy and business classes. Each class is further divided into invisible booking or fare classes, which although booked into the same cabin differ in conditions and benefits outside of the cabin class travelled, such as frequent-flyer points, baggage limit, change or refund policy, etc. Ocean liners Before cruise ships dominated the passenger ship trade, ocean liners had classes of service, often categorized as First Class, Second Class, and Steerage. Companies such as Cunard Line continue this tradition, offering Q ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The Cheap Trains Act 1883 was an Act of Parliament of the United Kingdom that marked the beginning of workers' train (and later, bus) services. It removed the passenger duty on any train charging less than a penny (1d) a mile and obliged the railway companies to operate a larger number of cheap trains.Smith, D.N., (1988) ''The Railway and its Passengers: A Social History'' Newton Abbott: David and Charles Origin The Railway Regulation Act 1844 had established the provision of third-class coaches on what became known as "parliamentary trains". This included the right of passengers in this class to take up to of luggage with them, so facilitating travel in search of work. In return, the railways were exempted from paying duty on these passengers. The duty was collected by the Board of Trade and gradually, as services improved, the board allowed more and more exemptions, even on trains which did not stop at all stations, as required by the Act. Enterprise (train Service)
''Enterprise'' is the cross-border inter-city train service between in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland, jointly operated by Iarnród Éireann (IE) and NI Railways (NIR). It operates on the Belfast–Dublin railway line. History The Great Northern Railway (Ireland) (GNR(I)) introduced the service as the "Enterprise Express" on Monday 11 August 1947 in an attempt to compete with air and road transport which were challenging the railways. In particular, business travel was and is an important market. Customs checks were limited to the Belfast and Dublin terminals to reduce journey times by ensuring that journeys were non-stop, and advance booking was available. The name of the train comes from the "enterprising" approach that the GNR(I) took to make journeys more convenient for passengers despite the requirement for customs checks. The initial service ran between and Dublin Amiens Street Junction (renamed in 1966). Locomotives of GNRI Class V were initially ... Mark 4 (Iarnród Éireann)
The CAF Mark 4 (or MK4 or MKIV) are Passenger car (rail), railway carriages operated by Iarnród Éireann in Republic of Ireland, Ireland on the InterCity (Iarnród Éireann), InterCity service from Dublin to Cork. These carriages have no connection to the British Rail Mark 4. History Along with the occasional Cravens stocked train, the Dublin–Cork railway line, Dublin to Cork express was operated only with outdated slam-door British Rail Mark 2s and electric-door British Rail Mark 3, Mark 3s. Since only a limited amount of Mark 3 Driving Van Trailer, DVTs were available most services required a locomotive shunt at the end of each trip. This resulted in an infrequent service with most services bunched in the morning and evening rush hours. Iarnród Éireann opted to extend the service to an hourly clockface departure in order to increase growth on the line. Initially, to eliminate the Locomotive shunt, interest was expressed in a long range diesel multiple unit however, since ... Regional Rail
Regional rail, also known as local trains and stopping trains, are passenger rail services that operate between towns and cities. These trains operate with more stops over shorter distances than inter-city rail, but fewer stops and faster service than commuter rail. Regional rail services operate beyond the limits of urban areas, and either connect similarly-sized smaller cities and towns, or cities and surrounding towns, outside or at the outer rim of a suburban belt. Regional rail normally operates with an even service load throughout the day, although slightly increased services may be provided during rush-hour. The service is less oriented around bringing commuters to the urban centers, although this may generate part of the traffic on some systems. Other regional rail services operate between two large urban areas but make many intermediate stops. In North America, "regional rail" is not recognized as a service classification between "commuter rail" and "inter-city rai ... Modern services on rapid transit systems are provided on designated lines between rapid transit station, stations typically using electric multiple units on rail tracks, although some systems use guided rubber tires, magnetic levitation (''maglev''), or monorail. British Rail
British Railways (BR), which from 1965 traded as British Rail, was a state-owned company that operated most of the overground rail transport in Great Britain from 1948 to 1997. It was formed from the nationalisation of the Big Four British railway companies, and was privatised in stages between 1994 and 1997. Originally a trading brand of the Railway Executive of the British Transport Commission, it became an independent statutory corporation in January 1963, when it was formally renamed the British Railways Board. The period of nationalisation saw sweeping changes in the railway. A process of dieselisation and electrification took place, and by 1968 steam locomotives had been entirely replaced by diesel and electric traction, except for the Vale of Rheidol Railway (a narrow-gauge tourist line). Passengers replaced freight as the main source of business, and one-third of the network was closed by the Beeching cuts of the 1960s in an effort to reduce rail subsidies. On privatis ...
