No Man's Land (Frank Turner Album)
''No Man's Land'' is the eighth studio album by English singer-songwriter Frank Turner, released on 16 August 2019 by Xtra Mile Recordings. It is a concept album with songs about women from history, often with connections to music. Background The album was announced alongside the release of the single "Sister Rosetta" on July 3, 2019. Turner wrote the album as a way of drawing attention to the lives of "fascinating women" whose amazing lives were overlooked due to their gender. These women include Byzantine princess Kassiani, Huda Sha'arawi, Nannie Doss, Nica Rothschild, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Jinny Bingham, Dora Hand and the CPR training manikin Resusci Anne. Alongside the album's release, Turner and Somethin' Else released a podcast entitled "Tales From No Man's Land" in which he discusses the story of every woman that the songs are based on. Frank Turner
Francis Edward Turner (born 28 December 1981), is an English Punk rock, punk and Folk music, folk singer-songwriter from Meonstoke, Hampshire. He began his career as the vocalist of post-hardcore band Million Dead, then embarked upon a primarily acoustic-based solo career following the band's split in 2005. In the studio and during live performances, Turner is accompanied by his backing band, The Sleeping Souls, which consists of Ben Lloyd (guitar, mandolin), Tarrant Anderson (bass), Matt Nasir (piano, mandolin) and Callum Green (drums). To date, Turner has released nine solo albums, four rarities compilation albums, one retrospective "best of" album, one split album and five Extended play, EPs. Dora Hand (c. 1844 – October 4, 1878), aged c. 34, was an American dance hall singer and actress in Dodge City, Kansas, who was mistakenly shot to death from ambush by a young suitor who was acquitted of criminal charges in the case. Hand was also linked romantically with James H. "Dog" Kelley, the mayor of Dodge City from 1867 to 1871. Television and film depiction Claire Trevor played Hand in the 1943 film ''The Woman of the Town,'' which depicts a fictional romance with Bat Masterson. Metacritic is a website that review aggregator, aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted arithmetic mean, weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations.
