Biography Nima Sarvestani (born December 22, 1958) is a Swedish Iranian documentary filmmaker. Born in Shiraz, Iran, Sarvestani worked as a journalist in Iran for several years reporting on social and political issues. In 1984 Sarvestani left his homeland and immigrated to Sweden. Despite changing his perspective forever, he has remained faithful to the subjects that interested him as a journalist in Iran. Women's rights in Afghanistan have oscillated back and forth depending on the time period. After King Amanullah Khan's attempts to modernize the country in the 1920s, women officially gained equality under the 1964 Constitution.
