Nipper's Harbour
Nipper's Harbour is a town located on the east coast of the Baie Verte Peninsula of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This incorporated community of 85 people is located on a rocky inlet that combines Nipper's Harbour and Noble's Cove, and where the primary industry is the inshore fishery. The town is approximately 58 km from Baie Verte. In 2013, the town voted 98% in favour of resettlement, however the provincial government refused to offer financial compensation to the residents arguing it would be more cost efficient for them to not resettle. In 2021, the local school, Bayview Primary, closed due to no enrolment. Etymology The derivation of the name is believed to be from the local name for the mosquito, the "jarnipper." 2021 Canadian Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016. Planning Consultation on census program content was from September 11 to December 8, 2017. The census was conducted by Statistics Canada, and was contactless as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. The agency had considered delaying the census until 2022. Deer Lake, Newfoundland And Labrador
Deer Lake is a town in the western part of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town derives its name from Deer Lake and is situated at the outlet of the upper Humber River at the northeastern end of the lake. History The first settlers in the area arrived from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia in 1864. Originally loggers and trappers, the settlers later took up farming. In 1922, a work camp was set up to support the International Pulp and Paper company. The camp would later become the town of Deer Lake. A formal townsite was constructed in 1925 and included a railway terminal, churches and a small hospital. The town was incorporated in 1950 with Phil Hodder as its first mayor. The airport was built in 1955 and is one of the town's major employers. In 2004, Deer Lake Regional Airport redesigned the airport terminal, which was completed in June 2007. Baie Verte, Newfoundland And Labrador
Baie Verte ( 2021 Population 1,311) is a town located on the north coast of the island portion of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador on the Baie Verte Peninsula. The French named the area for its greenness, "green bay." Geography Baie Verte is one of 42 communities that make up the Emerald Zone which is located in the North Central portion of Newfoundland. Baie Verte dates to the late 19th century, but remained a small village until the discovery of asbestos and other ore bodies of copper, lead, zinc and gold in the mid-1950s when the town underwent major expansion. Bowering Brother's steamers called in the area in the 1950s to transport the ore found here. It became a town in 1968.
