Night Working
Shift work is an employment practice designed to make use of, or provide service across, all 24 hours of the clock each day of the week (often abbreviated as ''24/7''). The practice typically sees the day divided into shifts, set periods of time during which different groups of workers perform their duties. The term "shift work" includes both long-term night shifts and work schedules in which employees change or rotate shifts. In medicine and epidemiology, shift work is considered a risk factor for some health problems in some individuals, as disruption to circadian rhythms may increase the probability of developing cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, diabetes, altered body composition and obesity, among other conditions. History The shift work system in modern industrial manufacturing originated in the late 18th century. In 1867, Karl Marx wrote on the shift work system in ''Capital, Volume 1'': Capitalist production therefore drives, by its inherent nature, towa ...

Nightshift (magazine)
''Nightshift'' is a free monthly music magazine in Oxford, England. Distributed via music venues, pubs, and shops, it provides music news, gig listings, and reviews for the city and surrounding area. History First published in March 1991, it was originally titled ''Curfew'', and continued under that name until the end of 1994, when the main venues in Oxford - The Venue, the Jericho Tavern, and the Hollybush - closed down temporarily and there was little music scene to cover. ''Curfew'' had the earliest reviews and interviews with Radiohead and Supergrass. In July 1995, publication started anew as ''Nightshift'', ahead of the opening of venues the Zodiac and the Point. After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ''Nightshift'' arranged a fundraiser on July 1, 2021 to raise £12,000 to cover printing and distribution costs. Oxford bands Radiohead, Supergrass, Foals, Glass Animals, Ride, Stornoway and Young Knives contributed items for a prize draw. On July 5, after just four d ...

Hide And Seek (The Birthday Massacre Album)
Hide-and-seek (sometimes known as hide-and-go-seek) is a popular children's game in which at least two players (usually at least three) conceal themselves in a set environment, to be found by one or more seekers. The game is played by one chosen player (designated as being "it") counting to a predetermined number with eyes closed while the other players hide. After reaching this number, the player who is "it" calls "Ready or not, here I come!" or "Coming, ready or not!" and then attempts to locate all concealed players. The game can end in one of several ways. The most common way of ending is the player chosen as "it" locates all players; the player found first is the loser and is chosen to be "it" in the next game. The player found last is the winner. Another common variation has the seeker counting at "home base"; the hiders can either remain hidden or they can come out of hiding to race to home base; once they touch it, they are "safe" and cannot be tagged. The game is an ex ...

Juju (Siouxsie And The Banshees Album)
''Juju'' is the fourth studio album by English rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was recorded at Surrey Sound studio with Nigel Gray as co-producer, and was released on 19 June 1981 by record label Polydor. Two singles were released from ''Juju'': " Spellbound" and " Arabian Knights". The album was commercially successful in the UK. It was acclaimed by critics upon its release, with praise given particularly to John McGeoch's unconventional guitar playing and Siouxsie's vocal performances. It remains a critical favourite and is seen as a landmark album of post-punk. Background After the slightly electronic bent of their previous album, 1980's ''Kaleidoscope'', Siouxsie and the Banshees returned to a guitar-based sound for ''Juju'', due to the presence of now-official guitarist McGeoch. The album also prominently featured the intricate percussion work of band member Budgie. According to Steven Severin: "''Juju'' was the first time we'd made a "concept" album that drew ...

Rastaman Vibration
''Rastaman Vibration'' is the eighth studio album by the reggae band Bob Marley and the Wailers, released in April 1976. Critical reception Reviewing for ''Rolling Stone'' in 1976, Robert Palmer said that on the album Marley consummately performs "a dual role as spokesman for the Third World's disadvantaged and avatar of a highly commercial brand of popular music". While lacking the forceful, intricate quality of the Wailers' past line-up, "the sensitive, careful listener will learn from ''Rastaman Vibration'' something of the pain, rage and determination of Shantytown, Jamaica, and perhaps something of the community's political and cultural fragmentation as well", Palmer concluded. ''Village Voice'' critic Robert Christgau said if the record's first side "makes it seem that reggae has turned into the rasta word for boogie—even to a Trenchtown tragedy recited with all the toughness of an imprecation against litter—the unimpassioned sweetness of most of side two sounds like ...

Night Shift (Lucy Dacus Song)
"Night Shift" is a song by American indie rock musician Lucy Dacus. It was released as the lead single from her album ''Historian'' on December 12, 2017. Background Dacus described the song as, "The only breakup song I've ever written." It was inspired by her relationship with her former bassist, with whom she broke up after finishing the tour for her previous album '' No Burden''. She said that her decision to include it as the opening track on the album was:Very deliberate! A breakup song is so immediately relatable. A first genuine heartbreak is a look into reimagining what your life is going to look like. If you accommodate somebody else and you think they’re going to be part of your life and then they’re not, you have to reform. The rest of the album has that reforming quality — having the rug pulled out from underneath you, and coming back. Reception "Night Shift" was released to critical acclaim. Andrew Marantz of ''The New Yorker'' described it as "a cathartic, ...
