Nigar (magazine)
''Nigār'' ( ur, ) is a Pakistan-based entertainment magazine published weekly from its head office in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. History and profile ''Nigar'' was the brainchild of Ilyas Rashidi, also known as the 'Pioneer of Film Journalism' () in Pakistan. Ilyas Rashidi acquired experience in entertainment journalism through his association with Umer Azad (his older brother) and his daily newspaper ''Anjum'', which had shifted its offices from Delhi to Karachi in 1947. Ilyas had been inspired by ''Filmfare'' magazine and thus purchased a children's magazine ''Monthly Nigar'' from his friend Ibne Hassan Nigar, and re-branded it as a weekly film magazine. In 1957, the Nigar Awards were founded, as an extension of ''Nigar'' magazine. Ilyas Rashidi
Ilyas Rashidi ( ur, ) was a Pakistani publisher and editor in chief, editor who founded Nigar (magazine), dedicated exclusively to films and film personalities, in 1948 and the historic and prestigious Nigar Awards on 17 July 1957. The ''Ilyas Rashidi Lifetime Achievement Gold Medal'' is presented annually at the Nigar Awards ceremony and event. In January 2017, a press conference was held at a local hotel in Karachi to announce the scheduled date of 16 March 2017 for the 47th Nigar Awards. Death and legacy Ilyas Rashidi died in 1997. He was also affectionately called ''Baba-e-Filmi Sahafat'' (Pioneer of Film Journalism) in Pakistan. His son, Aslam Ilyas Rashidi temporarily suspended the annual awarding of Nigar Awards from 2005 to 2012 due to a then ongoing decline in Pakistani film industry during that period. Pakistani Dramas
Pakistani dramas, or Pakistani serials, are televised serials produced in Pakistan. Although most of the serials are produced in Urdu, an increasing number of them are produced in other Pakistani languages such as Sindhi, Pashto, Punjabi and Balochi. One of Pakistan's oldest television dramas is the Urdu serial '' Khuda Ki Basti'', which aired in 1969. Pakistani dramas, like serials elsewhere, reflect the country's culture. According to Farooq Sulehria 1970s & 1980 are considered to be golden old days of Pakistani serials. They have helped to attract viewers nationwide to television. The serials are watched in India and are popular in other South Asian countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. The Nigar Awards ( ur, , translit=Inʿām Negār, lit=Picture Awards) were presented in an annual award show to recognize outstanding achievement in Pakistani cinema. The honors are awarded by Nigar Magazine founded in 1948. The Nigar Awards are Pakistan's version of the Academy Awards. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists. The first Nigar Awards ceremony was held in 1957, to honor the accomplishments of Pakistani cinema for the year 1956.
