Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF; ro, Universitatea de Stat de Medicină și Farmacie „Nicolae Testemițanu”) is a university located in Chișinău, Moldova. The institution began its activity in 1945. It is named after Nicolae Testemițanu. History The Chişinău State University of Pharmacy and Medicine was established as part of the Medicine Institute No. 2 from Leningrad, which was evacuated during the Second World War in Kislovodsk, which was later transferred to Chişinău together with the students and the teaching staff under the name of the State Institute of Medicine. The Institute began its activity on October 20, 1945 with only one active faculty, that being General Medicine which had 32 departments and 1000 students. The didactic process was performed by 130 professors, including 20 habilitated doctors and 23 doctors in medical science. Nicolae Testemițanu (1 August 1927 – 20 September 1986) was a Moldovan and Soviet surgeon, hygienist, and politician. Political career He served as minister of health of Moldavian SSR between 1963 and 1968, after which he was demoted for allegedly promoting too many autochthonous medical personnel, contrary to Soviet Russification policies. Kislovodsk
Kislovodsk (russian: Кислово́дск, lit. ''sour waters''; ; krc, Ачысуу) is a spa city in Stavropol Krai, Russia, in the North Caucasus region of Russia which is located between the Black and Caspian Seas. Population: History In 1803 Tsar Alexander I of Russia ordered the construction of the military station which became Kislovodsk. The site took its name from the many mineral springs around the city. Education in Moldova is currently the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. History In 1990, the average Moldovan spent six years in school, and only 30% of people older than 15 had completed secondary education. After the end of Soviet rule, reforms were established that required nationals to receive a basic education over 10 years, followed by enrollment in a technical school or an institution of higher learning. Grading conventions The lowest grade (mark) in the Moldovan educational system is 1, the highest is 10. To pass a course, a subject, or an exam, the student must obtain a mark of 5 or above.
