Nicobar Islands
The Nicobar Islands are an archipelagic island chain in the eastern Indian Ocean. They are located in Southeast Asia, northwest of Aceh on Sumatra, and separated from Thailand to the east by the Andaman Sea. Located southeast of the Indian subcontinent, across the Bay of Bengal, they are part of India, as the Nicobar district within the union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. UNESCO has declared the Great Nicobar Island as one of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Bay Of Bengal
The Bay of Bengal is the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean, bounded on the west and northwest by India, on the north by Bangladesh, and on the east by Myanmar and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India. Sumatra
Sumatra is one of the Sunda Islands of western Indonesia. It is the largest island that is fully within Indonesian territory, as well as the sixth-largest island in the world at 473,481 km2 (182,812 mi.2), not including adjacent islands such as the Simeulue, Nias, Mentawai, Enggano, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung and Krakatoa archipelago. Teressa Island
Teressa (Teressa language: ''Luroo'', hi, तेरेस्सा, also called Tarasa Dwip) is one of the Nicobar Islands, India. History When Austria claimed Nicobar Islands as a colony (1778-1784) on the assumption that Denmark had ababdoned its claim (1754/56-1868), they named Teressa after the Austrian Arch-duchess Maria Theresia. Extensive damage to the island's flora and fauna occurred following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Geography Teressa lies west of the neighboring island of Camorta Island, Camorta and northwest of Katchal Island, Katchal. Chowra
Chowra is an island in the Andaman and Nicobar islands group of India. It is located to the north of Teressa island and to the south of Battimalv Island in the Indian Ocean. It is also known as Choura, Tatat or Sanenyo. History The island suffered severe damage during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Geography The island is generally flat but has a 104.5 m high rocky upland at its southern end. Coral reefs extend about 1.5 miles from the northwestern side of the island. Demographics The island has three villages, belonging to 5 clans. Tahaila Beach is located on the east coast, where the jetty is. Battimalv Island
Battimalv is an island of the Nicobar Islands. It is part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. History The island was severely affected by the tsunami that was caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, which led to the destruction of a coconut plantation on the island that was being used by Car Nicobar families. Geography Battimalv falls in between Car Nicobar and Nancowry. Battimalv is remarkably flat and small, having only . 2011 Census Of India
The 2011 Census of India or the 15th Indian Census was conducted in two phases, house listing and population enumeration. The House listing phase began on 1 April 2010 and involved the collection of information about all buildings. Information for National Population Register (NPR) was also collected in the first phase, which will be used to issue a 12-digit unique identification number to all registered Indian residents by Unique Identification Authority of India. The second population enumeration phase was conducted between 9 and 28 February 2011. Census has been conducted in India since 1872 and 2011 marks the first time biometric information was collected. Nicobar District
Nicobar district is one of three districts in the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The district's administrative territory encompasses all of the Nicobar Islands, which are located in the Indian Ocean, between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea.
