Nico Rosso
Nicolas Rosso (Turin, July 19, 1910 - São Paulo, October 1st, 1981) was an Italian-Brazilian comic artist. Born in Italy, he studied with the masters Giacomo Grosso and Giovanni Reduzzi. He also taught Illustration and Costume History at the Bernard Semeriz School of Graphic Arts. He married Tina Billi in 1937 and had two children: Gianluigi Rosso and Valeria Rosso. He lost almost all of his possessions during World War II, moving to Brazil in 1947 (his family arrived the following year). In São Paulo, he started working in the Arts Department of Editora Brasilgráfica. After that, he became a freelance illustrator, drawing covers and comics for several publishers. Rosso has worked with all comic book genres, but his main works were in the horror genre, including the Coffin Joe comics. He was also a professor at the Escola Panamericana de Artes, which he co-founded. He retired in 1976 for health reasons and died in 1981 after suffering three heart attacks. Giacomo Grosso
Giacomo Grosso (23 May 1860 in Cambiano – 14 January 1938 in Turin) was an Italian painter. Biography After spending his childhood at Glaveno seminary, Giacomo Grosso enrolled at the Accademia Albertina in Turin in 1873, thanks to a scholarship he was awarded by Cambiano Town Council. He became a pupil of Andrea Gastaldi and made his debut in 1882 at the 24th ''Esposizione della Società di Incoraggiamento alle Belle Arti di Torino'', completing his studies the following year. In 1884, he participated in the ''Esposizione Generale Italiana'' in Turin with a painting inspired by ''La storia di una capinera'' by Giovanni Verga. Galerie Lambiek is a Dutch comic book store and art gallery in Amsterdam, founded on November 8, 1968 by Kees Kousemaker (, – Bussum, ), though since 2007, his son Boris Kousemaker is the current owner. From 1968 to 2015, it was located in the Kerkstraat, but in November 2015, the store moved to the Koningsstraat 27. As of 2018, Lambiek is the oldest comics store in Europe, and the oldest worldwide still in existence. The name "Lambiek" originated as a misspelling of the name of the comics character Lambik, from the popular Suske & Wiske comic book series created by Belgian artist Willy Vandersteen. Zé do Caixão , known in English-speaking countries as Coffin Joe, is a character created and nominally played by Brazilian writer, director, and actor José Mojica Marins. An amoral undertaker with Nietzschian beliefs, he is driven by his desire to have a son by "the perfect woman", believing that immortality is achieved through procreation, a concept he refers to as "the continuation of blood". He often resorts to murder, kidnapping, and rape to achieve his means, with his violent nature, atheism, and antagonism towards Christianity placing him into conflict with his largely Catholic neighbors. Master of National Comics ( pt-BR, Mestre do Quadrinho Nacional) is one of the categories of Prêmio Angelo Agostini, the most traditional Brazilian award dedicated to comics that has been held since 1985 by Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP). History The "Master of National Comics" category has been part of Prêmio Angelo Agostini since its first edition, in 1985.
