Nic. Stang
Nicolay Milberg Stang (21 April 1908 – 15 July 1971) was a Norwegian academic art historian, classical philologist, editor and author. Biography Nicolay Stang was born at Kristiansand in Vest-Agder County, Norway. He was the son of Johan Ludvig Heyerdahl Stang (1874–1945) and Emilie Charlotte Milberg (1876–1965). He graduated artium from the Hamar Cathedral School in 1926. He earned his cand.philol. in Latin in 1933 from the University of Oslo. He was a lecturer in the Oslo and Tanum school systems from 1935-38. He was editorial secretary of '' Fritt Ord'' from 1936-37. During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, Strang was arrested in November 1940 and spent 18 months in solitary confinement at Møllergata 19 in Oslo. Stang was released in April of 1943 with a pledge to abstain from any illegal activities. Kristiansand is a seaside resort city and municipality in Agder county, Norway. ''Dagsavisen'' is a daily newspaper published in Oslo, Norway. The former party organ of the Norwegian Labour Party, the ties loosened over time from 1975 to 1999. It has borne several names, and was called ''Arbeiderbladet'' from 1923 to 1997. Eirik Hoff Lysholm is editor-in-chief. The newspaper depends on economic support from the Norwegian Government. History ''Dagsavisen'' was established by Christian Holtermann Knudsen in 1884 under the name ''Vort Arbeide'' ('Our Work' in archaic Riksmål), and was affiliated with the trade union center ''Fagforeningernes Centralkomité''. Holtermann Knudsen also had to establish his own printing press since the existing printing presses did not want to be affiliated with a labourer's newspaper. The fledgling project was marred by economic problems, and the burden of writing, editing, and printing lay chiefly on Knudsen. Chrix Dahl (5 January 1906 – 16 June 1994) was a Norwegian painter and illustrator. Biography Christian Axel Dahl was born in Kristiania (now Oslo) Norway. He was the eldest son of Christian Axel Dahl (1878-1918) and Elise Augusta Steen (1879-1952). Dahl was the son of a naval officer and grew up in Vestre Aker. He attended Skøyen School and took artium at Frogner School. He studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (1924–25) under Eivind Nielsen, at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts under Axel Revold and Halfdan Strøm (1925–27) and under Olaf Willums (1929–32). Dahl traveled through southern Europe, including Venice in 1929. He made his exhibition debut at Blomqvist in Oslo during 1930. Hans Fredrik Dahl (born 16 October 1939) is a Norwegian historian, journalist and media scholar, best known in the English-speaking world for his biography of Vidkun Quisling, a Nazi collaborationist and Minister President for Norway during the Second World War. His research is focused on media history, the totalitarian ideologies of the 20th century, and the Second World War. He served as culture editor of ''Dagbladet'' 1978–1985 and has been a board member of the paper since 1996. He was a professor at the University of Oslo 1988–2009, and is now a professor emeritus. Ragna Thiis Stang
Ragna Thiis Stang (15 September 1909 – 29 March 1978) was a Norwegian historian and museum administrator. Biography She was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. She was a daughter of museum director Jens Thiis and his wife Vilhelmine Dons. Her brother was architect Helge Thiis. After graduating artium at Oslo in 1929, she studied art history at the University of Oslo. She also conducted several study trips to Belgium, France, Greece and Germany . She stayed at the Swedish Archaeological Institute in Rome from 1934-35. In 1937 she took her master's degree in art history. She received her doctorate in 1960. Stang was appointed at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History from 1938 to 1944. From 1947 she was manager of the Vigeland Museum at Frogner.
