Newport Restaurant
Moe's Newport Restaurant is located in the Westboro area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, at the corner of Churchill and Scott. It had previously been located at the corner of Richmond and Churchill. Moe's is known for its pizza and Lebanese cuisine menu. Moe's was founded by Moe Atallah, a Lebanese refugee who fled his homeland in 1976. In Lebanon, Atallah managed his family's restaurant on the Mediterranean coast. His first job in Canada was as a dishwasher for a Greek restaurant on Rideau Street. He worked for a number of local restaurants, including another local institution: the Colonnade pizzeria on Metcalfe Street. He purchased the Newport in 1988, turning the diner into a local landmark and highly successful enterprise. Atallah now owns a number of restaurants around Ottawa. Westboro, Ottawa
Westboro (often referred to as Westboro Village) is an area in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located along the Ottawa River, Island Park Drive defines Westboro's eastern border, while the Ottawa River defines its northern border. Under this definition, the population of the area is 22,725 (2016 Census). Its community association boundaries are the Transitway to the north, Tweedsmuir Avenue to the east, Carling Avenue to the south and Denbury Avenue to the west. Earl McRae (May 3, 1942 – October 15, 2011) was a Canadian journalist who wrote a daily general interest column for the '' Ottawa Sun''. Early life Born Earl Gerald Piche in Toronto to Betty Piche, a homemaker, and Earl Piche, a soldier with The Algonquin Regiment in the Canadian Army, he was raised by his mother and step-father, William "Bill" McRae, after his father, Earl Piche, was killed overseas during the war in 1945. Heather Crowe (activist)
Heather Crowe (April 23, 1945, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia – May 22, 2006, Ottawa, Ontario) was a Canadian waitress who became the public face of Canada's anti-smoking campaign. Crowe was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2002. She said that she had "never smoked a day in her life", and believed her cancer to be the result of regularly breathing second-hand smoke at her workplace, Moe's Newport Restaurant, for over forty years.
