Newmarket—Aurora is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. The district contains the towns of Newmarket, Aurora, and a very small portion of East Gwillimbury. The riding was created for the 2004 election by merging 50% of the riding of York North with 24% of the riding of Vaughan—King—Aurora. According to the 2006 census, 121,924 people are represented in the House of Commons in this riding. The major industry in the riding is manufacturing, and auto parts maker Magna International is the largest manufacturer. According to the 2006 census, the average family income is $118,060 which is higher than the national average. Unemployment in the riding is lower than the national average at 3.6%. Lois Brown
Lois E. Brown (born 22 January 1955, in Stouffville, Ontario) is a Canadian businesswoman and politician. She served as the Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Newmarket—Aurora from 2008 to 2015. Political career Brown is a former member of the Canadian Alliance and was nominated as its candidate for Newmarket—Aurora in advance of the 2004 federal election. When the party merged with the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, however, Brown lost the Conservative nomination to Belinda Stronach, who went on to defeat Liberal candidate Martha Hall Findlay. Stronach later crossed the floor to the Liberal Party. Brown was the Conservative nominee in the 2006 federal election, where Stronach defeated her by 4,805 votes. Dorian Baxter
Dorian Baxter (born 3 April 1950) is a Canadian religious minister and musician and a perennial candidate for political office in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. He was consecrated as an bishop in the Federation of Independent Anglican Churches in 2003. Ministry In 1996, Baxter began incorporating the music and look of Elvis Presley into his services. That year, he won the Canadian Showstopper at the Collingwood Elvis Festival. In 1997 he won the Grand Champion of Showstoppers at that same festival. Kyle Peterson (politician)
Kyle Peterson is a Canadian politician who served as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Newmarket—Aurora from 2015 to 2019 as a member of the Liberal Party. Vaughan—King—Aurora was a federal electoral riding in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2004, and was a provincial electoral riding represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2007. Newmarket, Ontario
Newmarket ( 2021 population: 87,942) is a town and regional seat of the Regional Municipality of York in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is part of Greater Toronto in the Golden Horseshoe region of Southern Ontario. The name stems from the fact that the settlement was a "New Market", in contrast to York as the ''Old Market''. The town was formed as one of many farming communities in the area, but also developed an industrial centre on the Northern Railway of Canada's mainline, which was built in 1853 through what would become the downtown area. York North
York North was a federal riding in Ontario, Canada, that was in the House of Commons of Canada from Confederation in 1867 until 2004. The federal riding was eliminated in 2003 when it was redistributed between two new ridings of Newmarket—Aurora and York—Simcoe. Another small section was incorporated into Oak Ridges—Markham. The riding covered the northern suburbs of the city of Toronto often including such towns as Aurora, Vaughan, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Markham. The borders changed often, however, most notably in 1996 when the riding was so altered that it contained very little of the same territory as before.
