Newlands Catholic School FCJ, was a mixed 11–16 Catholic, state school in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. The school was awarded Specialist Maths and Computing College status. It was owned by a religious order, the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJs) who originally came to Middlesbrough in the 19th century at the request of the Bishops. It was originally a girls school before it was amalgamated with St Mary's the local boys school. Maths And Computing College
Mathematics and Computing Colleges were introduced in England in 2002 and Northern Ireland in 2006 as part of the Government's Specialist Schools programme which was designed to raise standards in secondary education. Specialist schools focus on their chosen specialism but must also meet the requirements of the National Curriculum and deliver a broad and balanced education to all their pupils. Mathematics and Computing Colleges must focus on mathematics and either computing or ICT. Colleges are expected to disseminate good practice and share resources with other schools and the wider community. The Faithful Companions of Jesus Sisters (FCJ Sisters, French: ''Fidèles compagnes de Jésus'') is a Christian religious institute of the Roman Catholic Church directly subject to the Pope. It was founded in Amiens in France in 1820 by Marie Madeleine de Bonnault d'Houët. Service The FCJ sisters can be found in the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe. Trinity Catholic College is a large, co-educational secondary school and sixth form in the town of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. It is part of Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust. Founded in 2009 following the amalgamation of St David's Roman Catholic Technology College, Newlands Catholic School FCJ, and St Mary's Catholic Sixth Form College, it is one of the largest Catholic secondary schools in the north east and the biggest in Teesside, with over 1,300 students on-roll.
