Newcastle Vipers
From 2002–2011 the Newcastle Vipers were an ice hockey club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The club was a member of the Elite Ice Hockey League, and the British National League. History Predecessors Previously, the city was represented by the Newcastle Jesters, who were founded in 1999 by Finnish businessman Harry Harkimo who purchased the franchise from the Ice Hockey Superleague. The franchise had previously been owned by John Hall who had owned the club as part of his ambitious "Newcastle Sporting Club" project and known as the Newcastle Cobras and later the Newcastle Riverkings. The Cobras had previously played as the Durham Wasps who had moved to Newcastle upon Tyne Arena following a season at the Crowtree Leisure Centre in Sunderland as a result of Hall purchasing them after a number of years of financial problems. Sheffield Steelers
The Sheffield Steelers are a professional ice hockey team located in Sheffield, England. They were formed in 1991 (see 1991 in sport) and play their home games at the Utilita Arena. They are currently a member of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The club's main (title) sponsor is Sheffield Window Centre. History Ice Hockey existed in amateur form in Sheffield, but the sport began its return to an era of arenas and stadium size crowds with the opening of the Sheffield Arena in 1991 and the creation of the Sheffield Steelers — the ice hockey team that was to occupy the new arena. The Nottingham Panthers are a British professional ice hockey club based in Nottingham, England. They are members of the Elite Ice Hockey League. Their main team sponsor is the Nottingham Building Society. The Nottingham Panthers have won four league titles (two English National League titles, one British National League title and one Elite Ice Hockey League title), five Championships, six Autumn Cups and eight Challenge Cups during their history. The Panthers are the only British team to win European club honours with one Continental Cup. Coventry Blaze are an ice hockey team based in Coventry, England. They currently compete in the British Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) and play their home games at SkyDome Arena. The club was founded in 1965 as the ''Solihull Barons'' and renamed to ''Solihull Blaze'' in 1996. Gateshead College
Gateshead College is a further education college in the town of Gateshead, England. Established on November 15, 1955 at Durham Road in Low Fell, Gateshead. It was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh. The original campus was closed as part of a planned move in January 2008. The college moved into a £39 million new main site located at the Baltic Quayside in Gateshead. Andrew Verner
Andrew Verner (born November 20, 1972) is a Canadian retired ice hockey goaltender. He most recently played for Sheffield Steelers, in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League. Playing career Verner was born in York, Ontario. He played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League for the Peterborough Petes. He was drafted 34th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, but spent three seasons playing in the American Hockey League for the Cape Breton Oilers and never managed to play in the NHL. Since 1995, Verner has played in European leagues, beginning with a spell in Austria for EHC Lustenau, followed by a season in Finland's SM-liiga with HPK where he served as the team's starting goalie. He then spent two seasons in Sweden playing in the Elitserien with Malmö IF. Jonathan Weaver (ice Hockey)
Jonathan Weaver (born 20 January 1977 in Sunderland, England) is a British professional ice hockey defenceman for the Telford Tigers of the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL). Weaver also played for the Great Britain men's national ice hockey team. Playing career Weaver has spent most of his playing career in Britain, the majority of which with the current Newcastle Vipers franchise. He started playing at an early age with the Sunderland Commanches, Arrows, Tomahawks then Chiefs, then moved to the Durham Wasps in 1992 before they were moved to Newcastle in 1996 as the Cobras. He moved to Manchester Storm in 1998 and had a brief spell in North America the following season, playing for Detroit Vipers and Mississippi Sea Wolves in the ECHL. Trevor Koenig (born 10 December 1974) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He last played for the Dundee Stars in the UK Elite Ice Hockey League. Koenig was born in Edmonton, Alberta. Koenig currently coaches the Mighty Bulls' U7 and U17 teams. Newcastle Vipers In the summer of 2005 Koenig crossed the Atlantic to join the Newcastle Vipers for their first season in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League.
