Tipsport Liga (hockey)
The Tipos Extraliga (Slovak Extraliga) is the highest-level ice hockey league in Slovakia. From the 2018–19 season to the 2020–21 season, the league included one or two teams from Hungary. In 2009, it was ranked by the IIHF as the fifth strongest league in Europe and in 2012, it was ranked by ''The Hockey News'' as the sixth-strongest league in the world behind the NHL, KHL, Swedish Hockey League, SM-liiga and Czech Extraliga. However, it has dropped significantly since then, with the American Hockey League, Swiss National League and German DEL, among others, all now ranked higher. The name of the league is leased to sponsors and changes frequently. From 1993/94 to 1997/98, it was called ''Extraliga'', then the name changed to ''West Extraliga'' until the end of the 2000/01 season. In 2001/02, its name was ''Boss Extraliga''. Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League
The Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League was the elite ice hockey league in Czechoslovakia from 1936 until 1993, when the country split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Slovak Extraliga and Czech Extraliga formed from the split. History The most successful team in the number of titles was HC Dukla Jihlava with 12 titles. Deutsche Eishockey Liga
The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (for sponsorship reasons called "PENNY Deutsche Eishockey Liga") (; English: ''German Ice Hockey League'') or DEL, is a German professional ice hockey league and the highest division in German ice hockey. Founded in 1994, it was formed as a replacement for the Eishockey-Bundesliga and became the new top-tier league in Germany as a result. Unlike the old Bundesliga, the DEL is not under the administration of the German Ice Hockey Federation. The DEL is regarded as one of Europe's premier ice hockey divisions behind leagues in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland. Three German clubs represent the DEL on the European stage each season in the Champions Hockey League, although no German club has yet won this competition. HC 21 Prešov
HC MV Transport Prešov is an ice hockey team playing in the Slovak 1. Liga, and formed in 2021, after HC Prešov Penguins announced the dissolvation of their club. They play in the city of Prešov, Slovakia. History The newly established hockey club HC 21 Prešov replaced HC 07 Detva in Slovak Extraliga from the season 2021–22. Ernest Bokroš was the head coach and the basic team should be made up of players from Detva. The final point for moving the Detvian club to Prešov gave the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation, but it was only a formality. The owner of the Detvian club, Róbert Ľupták, decided to move the Extraliga license to Prešov. Not only he moves from Detva to Prešov, but also several other players, including forward Ján Sýkora. The first captain of the team was Marek Zagrapan from Prešov, who came from HK Poprad. Zagrapan was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round, 13th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. HK Nitra
Hokejový Klub Nitra is a professional ice hockey club based in Nitra, Slovakia. The club has been a member of the Slovak Extraliga since the 2003–04 season and winner of Slovak Extraliga in the 2015–16 season. History The club was founded in 1931 under the name AC. Their first trophy which they won was the Tatra Cup in 1934. The club was renamed several times; from 1945 to 1976 they were named ''Sokol, Komunálny podnik, Spojené závody, Slavoj, Slovan,'' and ''Štart''. In 1976 the club was renamed Plastika Nitra. They won the 1. HK Dukla Trenčín
Hokejový Klub Dukla Trenčín is a professional Slovak ice hockey club based in Trenčín, playing in the Slovak Extraliga. The club has won three Slovak league championships (1994, 1997, 2004) and one Czechoslovak league championship (1992). The team is nicknamed ''Vojaci'', meaning "Soldiers" in English. HC Nové Zámky is a professional ice hockey team playing in the Slovak Extraliga, the top level of ice hockey in the country. They play in the city of Nové Zámky, Slovakia at Nové Zámky Ice Stadium. In ice hockey, a penalty shot is a type of penalty awarded when a team loses a clear scoring opportunity on a breakaway because of a foul committed by an opposing player. A player from the non-offending team is given an attempt to score a goal without opposition from any defending players except the goaltender. This is the same type of shot used in a shootout to decide games in some leagues. Award A penalty shot is awarded to a player who is deemed to have lost a clear scoring chance on a breakaway by way of a penalty infraction by an opposing player. A breakaway, in this case, means that there are no other players between the would-be shooter and the goaltender of the defending team. Sudden Death (sport)
In a sport or game, sudden death (also sudden-death, sudden-death overtime, or a sudden-death round) is a form of competition where play ends as soon as one competitor is ahead of the others, with that competitor becoming the winner. Sudden death is typically used as a tiebreaker when a contest is tied at the end of regulation (normal) playing time or the completion of the normal playing task. An alternative tiebreaker method to sudden death is to play an extra, shortened segment of the game. In association football 30 minutes of extra time (overtime) after 90 minutes of normal time, or in golf one playoff round (18 holes) after four standard rounds (72 holes) are two alternatives.
