New Port, South Australia
New Port is a north-western suburb of Adelaide. It was created in 2007 from parts of the suburbs of Birkenhead, Ethelton, Glanville and Semaphore Park. The name "Newport Quays" had been requested but this was not supported by the relevant government authority. Because there is limited access to the suburb due to it being located between the Port River and the Outer Harbor railway line, the relevant Minister of the Crown considered the views of emergency service organisations before creating the new suburb. On 6 August 2009, its eastern boundary was extended in part to the centre-line of the Port River. The historic Fletcher's Slip Precinct at 230-246 Semaphore Road is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. The County of Adelaide is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia and contains the city of Adelaide. It was proclaimed on 2 June 1842 by Governor Grey. City Of Port Adelaide Enfield
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, located across inner north and north-western suburbs of Adelaide, is one of the largest metropolitan councils within South Australia. It was established on 26 March 1996 by the amalgamation of the City of Port Adelaide and the City of Enfield. Extending from the River Torrens to Outer Harbor, and covering an area of approximately 97 km², the Port Adelaide Enfield contains some of the South Australia's finest historical buildings and landmarks. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Results from the 2016 census were available to the public on 11 April 2017, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website, two months earlier than for any previous census. Outer Harbor Railway Line
The Outer Harbor railway line is a suburban branch line in Adelaide, South Australia. It runs from Adelaide station through the north western suburbs to Port Adelaide and Outer Harbor. It is 21.9 kilometres in length, and shares part of its run with the Grange line. It is operated by Adelaide Metro. Since 2016, the line has been used as a shuttle for cruise liner passengers heading for Adelaide, with additional services provided. Port River
The Port River (officially known as the Port Adelaide River) is part of a tidal estuary located north of the Adelaide city centre in the Australian state of South Australia. Semaphore Park, South Australia
Semaphore Park is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located in the west of Adelaide on the coastline of Gulf St Vincent. The northern end of the suburb is considered to be located within the Lefevre Peninsula. Semaphore Park originally started as a private sub-division in Section 64 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Yatala under the names of New Liverpool and Mellor Park (named for Thomas Mellor).
