New Macau Association
The New Macau Association (AMN) is a major pro-democratic political party in the Chinese Special Administrative Region of Macau. The party was established in 1992 and the founding chairman was António Ng Kuok Cheong, who departed from the then-mainstream livelihood faction and called for political reform in the colony. The current chairman is Icy Kam Sut Leng. At the, 20 September 2009 election, the association split into two electoral lists – the New Democratic Macau Association and the Prosperous Democratic Macau Association. The two lists combined won 19.35% of popular vote and 3 seats in the legislature. At the election in 2005, the group won a plurality of 18.8% of the popular vote and 2 out of 12 popular elected seats. The University of Macau (UM; Portuguese: ''Universidade de Macau'', Chinese: 澳門大學) is an internationalised public comprehensive university in Macau. The UM campus is located in the east of Hengqin Island, Guangdong province in Mainland China, on a piece of land leased to the Macau SAR government, and is under the jurisdiction of Macau. The functional constituency is a professional or special interest group involved in the electoral process, they make up part of the political systems of Macau in legislative branch. Sulu Sou Ka Hou
Sulu Sou Ka-hou is a Macau resident who was a member of the Macau Legislative Assembly. In 2018 he was the youngest person in that position. He was elected in 2017, and at that time he became the youngest member of the assembly. 9,212 people voted for him. He is a part of the New Macau Association. He stated that his goal was to have direct elections for all seats of the assembly. In 2018 he held a protest near Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui's house, deemed illegal by the government. On 4 December, of his colleagues 28 out of 33 voted to suspend Sou from the assembly so he could be prosecuted under Macau law. In May 2018 he was declared guilty and ordered to pay a fine of 40,800 patacas (US$5,000). He expressed his intention to run for office again after the fine. In 2021 he filed a request for the Macau government to provide information in English. Paul Chan (Macanese Politician)
Paul Chan Wai Chi (; born 4 January 1957) is a Macau politician, who is the President of New Democratic Macau Association and a member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau. He is one of the three pro-democracy lawmakers in Macau. Chan graduated from Yuet Wah College. In 2009, he participated in the legislative election in the candidate list led by Antonio Ng, and won the third seat for the Macau democracy camp.
