Pieternella "Nelly" Cornelia Goedewaagen (1880 – 1953) was a Dutch painter and printmaker. Biography Goedewaagen was born on 16 August 1880 in Gouda. She studied at the ''Akademie van beeldende kunsten'' ( Royal Academy of Art, The Hague). Her teachers included Aletta Ruijsch, and Bernard Schregel. Goedewaagen was a member of the ''Arti et Amicitiae'', ', Kunstenaarsvereniging (Artists' association De Independents), '' (Dordrecht)'' (Drawing society Pictura), and ' She exhibited at '' De Vrouw 1813-1913'' (The Woman 1813–1913). Gouda, South Holland
Gouda () is a city and municipality in the west of the Netherlands, between Rotterdam and Utrecht, in the province of South Holland. Aletta Ruijsch or Aletta van Thol-Ruijsch (1860–1930) was a Dutch painter. Biography Ruijsch was born on 6 August 1860 in Den Helder, Netherlands. She studied at the ''Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten'' ( Royal Academy of Art, The Hague) and the ''Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten'', ( Academy of Visual Arts, Rotterdam). Arti et Amicitiae (lat .: For Art and Friendship) is a Dutch artist's society founded in 1839, and located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society (also called Arti for short) has played a key role in the Netherlands art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam art schools. It was and is to this day a hub for artists and art lovers in the city of Amsterdam. It is a private institution which supports artists, maintains social networks and offers a pension fund. Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . The show was open to all artists, with each artist allowed to enter four pieces. 902 artists exhibited 3,200 works of art in 74 rooms and cabinets of the Rijksmuseum.
