Nelly Bodenheim
Nelly Bodenheim or Johanna Cornelia Hermana Van Bodenheim (27 May 1874 – 7 January 1951) was a Dutch illustrator known for her silhouettes. Bodenheim was born in Amsterdam where she was trained at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, and then she followed lessons from the painter Jan Veth.Nelly Bodenheim in the RKD Her illustrations (often for children's books) were generally black & white silhouettes but she is also known for color lithography. Besides illustrations for books and magazines, she designed textiles, posters, and book covers. She was a member of the group of artists known as the Amsterdamse Joffers. Thérèse Schwartze
Thérèse Schwartze (20 December 185123 December 1918) was a Dutch people, Dutch portrait Painting, painter. Life Thérèse Schwartze was born on 20 December 1851 in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She was the daughter of the painter Johan Georg Schwartze, who grew up in Philadelphia and trained in Düsseldorf. Schwartze received her first training from her father, before studying for a year at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten. She then travelled to Munich and studied under Gabriel Max and Franz von Lenbach. In 1879 she went to Paris to continue her studies under Jean-Jacques Henner. When she returned to Amsterdam she became a member of Arti et Amicitiae. Schwartze exhibited her work at the Museum of Science and Industry (Chicago), Palace of Fine Arts at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Onze Kunst Van Heden
Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . The show was open to all artists, with each artist allowed to enter four pieces. 902 artists exhibited 3,200 works of art in 74 rooms and cabinets of the Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum () is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history and is located in Amsterdam. Amsterdamse Joffers
The Amsterdamse Joffers were a group of women artists who met weekly in Amsterdam at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. They supported each other in their professional careers. Most of them were students of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten and belonged to the movement of the Amsterdam Impressionists. Each one became a successful artist. As a group they contributed to the social acceptance in the Netherlands of women becoming professional artists. Origin and development Beginning In 1894, Lizzy Ansingh and Coby Ritsema began their studies at the ''Rijksacademie'' in a separate class for female students. Jan Veth
Jan Pieter Veth (18 May 1864, Dordrecht – 1 July 1925, Amsterdam) was a Dutch painter, poet, art critic and university lecturer. He is especially noted as a portrait painter. Amongst his sitters were Max Liebermann, Lambertus Zijl, Frank van der Goes, Antoon Derkinderen and other contemporaries including various fellow painters. Biography Jan Veth was the son of Gerradus Huibert Veth, a Dordrecht iron merchant and liberal politician, and Anna Cornelia Giltay. On his mother's side he descended from the Dordrecht painter family of Van Strij (his mother was a granddaughter of Jacob van Strij). He married Anna Dorothea Dirks on 10 August 1888, from which marriage came five children. Veth received his art education at the ''Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten'' in Amsterdam.
