National Media Commission
Ghana has a pluralistic and free media environment with an independent statutory media regulatory body, which is the National Media Commission. The National Media Commission was set up on July 7, 1993 by an act of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana (Act 449) in accordance with Chapter 12 of the 1992 Constitution (National Media Commission Act,1993). The Commission was set up to promote and safeguard the freedom and independence of the media, encourage responsible practice and investigate, mediate and settle complaints made against the media. The National Mass Media Commission is a Government of Ghana agency mandated with the responsibility of registering, regulating and monitoring the activities of media houses in Ghana.The current chairman of the commission is Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh. Government Of Ghana
The Government of Ghana was created as a parliamentary democracy, followed by alternating military and civilian governments in Ghana. In January 1993, military government gave way to the Fourth Republic after presidential and parliamentary elections in late 1992. The 1992 constitution divides powers among a president, parliament, cabinet, council of state, and an independent judiciary. The government is elected by universal suffrage. Government Political parties became legal in mid-1992 after a ten-year hiatus. There are more than 20 registered political parties under the Fourth Republic. Ghana Library Association
The Ghana Library Association (GLA) is the main professional organisation representing libraries and information services in Ghana. It was founded in 1962 by the West African Library Association (WALA). Eve Evans had started the WALA and she was to have an important role in creating a library service in Ghana. The GLA is a registered professional association established under the Professional Bodies Decree NRCD 143 of 1973 with Registered No. PB 21 on 2 August 1986 in accordance with the laws of Ghana. It publishes the ''Ghana Library Journal'', a peer-reviewed journal of Library science. The association has been in existence for over 54 years. The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is a professional association of lawyers in Ghana, including what used to be called solicitors and barristers but are now called legal practitioners, as well as magistrates.
