National Crime Prevention Council
National Crime Prevention Council is an American educational 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. whose mission is to enable people to create safer and more caring communities by addressing the causes of crime, drugs and violence and reducing the opportunities for crime to occur. The organization is perhaps best known for its mascot McGruff the Crime Dog, a Bloodhound dog character created to educate children about crime prevention. Paul DelPonte, a one-time federal whistleblower, was appointed to head the organization in 2021. History Carl M. Loeb, Jr. (son of banker John Langeloth Loeb Sr.), was a former vice chairman of the board of directors of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency. Joseph Robert Gase (born February 8, 1993) is an American professional stock car racing driver and team owner. He competes part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driving the Nos. 35 and 53 Ford Mustang and Toyota Supra for Emerling-Gase Motorsports. Early career and personal life Gase started racing at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in the track's junior classes in 2001. He won the track modified B championship at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in 2007, the youngest driver to do so. Evident Change, formerly the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD), is an American nonprofit social research organization. NCCD was organized by fourteen probation officers who met at Plymouth Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 17, 1907, to establish a volunteer professional organization in the emerging field of probation. The group adopted by-laws in 1909, and committees began doing year-round volunteer work. They named themselves the National Probation Association (NPA). McGruff The Crime Dog
McGruff the Crime Dog is an anthropomorphic animated bloodhound created by Dancer Fitzgerald Sample advertising executive Jack Keil (who also voiced the character) through the Ad Council and later the National Crime Prevention Council to increase crime awareness and personal safety in the United States. McGruff costumes are used by police outreach efforts, often with children. McGruff was created in 1979 and debuted in 1980 with a series of public service announcements educating citizens on personal security measures, such as locking doors and putting lights on timers, in order to reduce crime.
