Narvesen Prize
The Narvesen Prize was a Norwegian prize for those who excelled in journalism. It was established in 1954 by the company Narvesen, but the Norwegian Press Association was behind the selection of winners. It was discontinued in 1990. Narvesen
Narvesen is a Norwegian chain of newsagents / convenience stores which, with its 370 outlets nationwide, is one of Norway's largest retailers. The company has since 2000 been part of the Reitan Group (''Reitangruppen''). Narvesens Kioskkompagni (the name later shortened to Narvesen) was established by the businessman and merchant Bertrand Narvesen (1860–1939) who in 1894 received approval from Norwegian State Railways to take over the sale of all newspapers, magazines, and travel literature on its stations. Narvesen became a nationwide joint stock company in 1928. Morgenavisen
''Morgenavisen'' is a former Norwegian daily newspaper, published in Bergen, Norway from 1902 to 1984. Its first editor was Anders Stilloff, who edited the newspaper from 1902 to 1915. From its establishment the newspaper was a supporter of businessman and politician Christian Michelsen, and eventually also a supporter for his new political party, the Liberal Left Party. Later the newspaper became a supporter for the Conservative Party. During World War II ''Morgenavisen'' had installed a Nazi editor. From 1942 ''Morgenavisen'' and ''Bergens Tidende'' were the only two remaining newspapers in Bergen, as ''Bergens Aftenblad'' and '' Dagen'' ceased publication. Three other major newspapers published in Bergen, ''Gula Tidend'', ''Arbeidet'' and ''Bergens Arbeiderblad'', had stopped earlier in the war. Dagbladet
''Dagbladet'' (lit.: ''The Daily Magazine'') is one of Norway's largest newspapers and is published in the tabloid format. It has 1,400,000 daily readers on mobile, web and paper. Traditionally ''Dagbladet'' is considered the main liberal newspaper of Norway, with a generally liberal progressive editorial outlook, to some extent associated with the movement of cultural radicalism in Scandinavian history. The paper edition had a circulation of 46,250 copies in 2016, down from a peak of 228,834 in 1994. The editor-in-chief is Alexandra Beverfjord, the political editor is Geir Ramnefjell, the news editor is Frode Hansen and the culture editor is Sigrid Hvidsten. Arve Solstad
Arve Solstad (15 November 1935 – 3 June 2016) was a Norwegian newspaper editor. He was born in Orkdal as a son of farmer Johan Solstad (1896–1989) and Marit Skauge (1910–2000). He finished his secondary education in Orkdal in 1955, worked one year as editor-in-chief of '' Akershus Folkeblad'' before enrolling in studies of political science at the University of Oslo. He wrote for the newspaper ''Dagbladet'', including summaries of debates in the Norwegian Students' Society. He was hired permanently in ''Dagbladet'' after graduation in 1964. Also, in 1961 he married nurse Inger Marie Richter. He won the Narvesen Prize for journalism already in 1968. From 1969 to 1973 he was the political editor of the newspaper, and in 1973 he became editor-in-chief. Richard Herrmann (journalist)
Fritz Richard Herrmann, MBE (11 September 1919 – 14 June 2010) was a Norwegian journalist, writer and radio personality. Born and raised in Larvik, Herrmann graduated in 1939, and subsequently studied philology at University of Oslo. In 1941 he was offered a job with Norsk Telegrambyrå, an offer he reluctantly accepted, as it required all new employees to join Nasjonal Samling. He left the company after a few weeks. In 1952, he was employed by the Reuters newsagency in London, where he stayed until 1964. From 1961 he was the editor for Reuters UK operation. From 1964 to 1977 he was employed by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation as their correspondent in London. He later worked in Norway and was charged with developing the new radio channel NRK P2 in the early 1980s. In 1984 he retired from radio and TV, but he continued to write until he was almost 75 years old. Erik Erikssønn Bye (March 1, 1926 – October 13, 2004) was a versatile Norwegian-American journalist, artist, author, film actor, folk singer and radio and television personality. He was one of the 20th century's most well-known and popular radio and television figures in Norway. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Rønnaug (née Dahl) and opera singer Erik Ole Bye, his family moved home to Norway when he was six years old. After a few years in Ringerike they settled in the Nordstrand borough in Oslo, where they took over a bed and breakfast. Arne Hestenes
Arne Hestenes, pen name Plut (29 January 1920 – 3 January 1995) was a Norwegian journalist and author. He wrote feature pieces (literary journalism) and was a restaurant critic and film critic. Biography Arne Magnus Hestenes was born in Tromsø as a son of manager Ola Hestenes (1891–1961) and Gerda Kristine Larsen (1897–1963). He was a brother of barrister Olav Hestenes. He started his writing career with columns in ''Tromsø Stiftstidende'', but wanted to work for ''Dagbladet'' and got his first article on print there at the age of 17. He took the examen artium in 1939 and moved to study at the University of Oslo. His studies were interrupted during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany.
