Napanoch, New York
Napanoch is a hamlet in Ulster County, New York, United States. It is at the junction of routes 209 and 55. Napanoch is on the Shawangunk Ridge National Scenic Byway, and is part of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. Napanoch is in the Town of Wawarsing, in Ulster County (41.748231, -74.372710). According to the United States Census Bureau, the census-designated place ("CDP") has a total area of , of which is land and (2.46%) is water. History "Napanoch" is from the Munsee dialect of the northern Lenape, and is thought to mean land overflowed by water. It is from the original deed to that area. Old Route 209 and Main Street follow the Minisink Trail, the Lenape path between the Hudson and Delaware Rivers. Louis Bevier, the New Paltz patentee, bought the area for two of his sons, Jean Bevier and Abram Bevier in 1705 or 1706. A census-designated place (CDP) is a concentration of population defined by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. Eastern Correctional Facility
The Eastern Correctional Facility is a state prison for men in Napanoch, Ulster County, New York. Eastern is one of the oldest prison facilities in the state. It has been a maximum security prison for men since 1973. History The site opened as the "Eastern New York Reformatory". Its imposing main building, with medieval-style turrets and long green copper roof, was designed by architect John Rochester Thomas, who had also designed Elmira. Joseph K. Bevilacqua (born January 2, 1959) is an American actor, producer, director, author, dramatist, humorist, cartoonist, and documentarian. Biography Early life Bevilacqua was born on January 2, 1959, in Newark, New Jersey, the son of a policeman, Joseph Bevilacqua Sr., and a housewife, the former Joan Kvidahl. Bevilacqua began performing as a child. His family moved to Iselin, New Jersey in 1965. In 1971, he began recording his first audio stories, ''Willoughby and the Professor'', half hour stories, in which he performed all of the voices himself, creating live sound effects, and scoring with 78 RPM records he found in his attic.
