Dadu River (Sichuan)
The Dadu River (), known in Tibetan as the Gyelmo Ngul Chu, is a major river located primarily in Sichuan province, southwestern China. The Dadu flows from the eastern Tibetan Plateau into the Sichuan Basin where it joins with the Min River, a tributary of the Yangtze River. Measured from its geographic source, the Dadu is actually longer than the Min and thus forms the main stem of the Min River system. Shuangjiangkou Dam, expected to be the tallest dam in the world, is being built on the Dadu River. Shimian County
Shimian County () is both the southernmost and westernmost counties in China, county in the prefecture-level city of Ya'an, Sichuan, Sichuan Province, China. The county seat, Miancheng Subdistrict (), and the neighboring towns in China, town, Xinmian (), are often together referred to as Shimian. As of the 2010 census, Shimian County has a population of 123,600. The G5 Beijing–Kunming Expressway now passes through Shimian along the route between Kunming and Chengdu. Yele Dam
The Yele Dam is an embankment dam on the Nanya River along the border of Mianning County and Shimian County, Sichuan Province, China. It is high and long. Because the dam lies within a Level VIII earthquake intensity zone, its core is composed of asphalt concrete. Construction on the dam began in 2000, the reservoir began impounding on January 1, 2005 and the entire project was complete in August 2006. The purpose of the dam is to produce hydroelectricity and it supports a 240 MW power station. Water from the dam's reservoir is diverted into a long headrace tunnel before reaching the power station.
