Nanaimo ( ) is a city on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. As of the Canada 2021 Census, 2021 census, it had a population of 99,863, and it is known as "The Harbour City." Nanaimo Airport is a privately owned and operated regional airport located south southeast of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. In 1999, the air terminal was named in honour of World War I ace Raymond Collishaw who was born in Nanaimo. The Nanaimo-Collishaw Air Terminal is the passenger terminal for the airport. The Nanaimo Airport currently has only one available runway for instrument flight rules (IFR) conditions, runway 16. Tofino Air is a small Canadian airline offering floatplane service from Tofino, British Columbia. It offers scheduled services, scenic tours, and specialized charters. History In the early 1990s, the owner of Tofino Air, and a lifelong resident of Sunshine Coast (British Columbia), British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, started a small regional airline called Midcoast Air, to better assure safety and dependability for himself and his co-workers as they travelled from the logging and fishing camps on BC's west coast, to their homes on the Sunshine Coast. Sechelt/Porpoise Bay Water Aerodrome
Sechelt/Porpoise Bay Water Aerodrome was an aerodrome located adjacent to Sechelt, British Columbia, Canada. The airport was listed as abandoned in the 15 March 2007 Canada Flight Supplement. Current usage Whilst the aerodrome has been closed, the Sechelt Inlet/Porpoise Bay area is still used daily by private airline operators. Daily scheduled flights by Harbour Air leave from the Lighthouse Pub Complex at 5764 Wharf Avenue, and Sunshine Coast Air has its own separate base located at 5987 Sechelt Inlet Road. At its peak (pre-pandemic), Harbour Air had three daily round-trip flights to each of the following water aerodromes: Nanaimo (CAC8), Vancouver Harbour (CYHC) and Vancouver International Airport (CAM9).
