NCU Junior Cup
The NCU Junior Cup is a provincial cricket knock-out cup of the NCU jurisdiction in Ireland. The competition began in 1891 and is open to teams playing in the Sections 2 and 3 of the NCU Senior League and Section 1 of the NCU Junior League (which is made up of 2nd XI teams of senior clubs). It is sponsored by Goldblatt McGuigan. Matches consist of one innings per side, with fifty overs bowled per innings. Where matches are interrupted or delayed because of weather, the number of overs may be reduced to a minimum of 20. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Ulster Cup (cricket)
The Ulster Cup was a knock-out cricket competition in Ireland run jointly by the Northern Cricket Union and the North West Cricket Union. The top eight teams in the previous season's NCU Premier League and North West Senior League 1 were eligible to take part. Matches are of 40 overs duration, but may be reduced to ten overs where delays or interruptions necessitate. Waringstown are the current holders after they won the trophy for the first time beating Bready in the 2017 final Brigade and Instonians are the most successful clubs in the competition with 4 wins each The competition was discontinued after the 2017 season, and from 2021 the Ulster Cup will be played for between the winners of the NCU and NWCU T20 Cup competitions. NCU Senior Cup
The NCU Challenge Cup, also called the NCU Senior Challenge Cup and the NCU Senior Cup, is the most important provincial cricket knock-out cup of the Northern Cricket Union of Ireland, NCU jurisdiction in Ireland. The competition began in 1887, with eleven clubs participating in the first competition, North Down Cricket Club, North Down eventually beating North of Ireland Cricket Club, North of Ireland in the final at Ormeau. The Cup is open to teams playing in the Premier League and Section 1 of the NCU Senior League. It is sponsored by Arthur J Gallagher and marketed as the Arthur J Gallagher Challenge Cup. Civil Service North of Ireland Cricket Club (CSNICC, formally Civil Service & North of Ireland Cricket Club and often referred to as Civil Service North or C.S.N.I.) is a cricket club in Belfast, Northern Ireland, playing in the Premier League of the NCU Senior League. Lurgan Cricket Club is a cricket club in Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, playing in League 1 of the NCU Senior League. The club was formed in 1922 by the amalgamation of Brownlow and Lurgan YMCA cricket clubs. Millpark Cricket Club
Millpark Cricket Club was a cricket club in Gilford, County Down, Northern Ireland, that last played in Section 2 of the NCU Senior League. The club, originally based at Millpark, an area located between Gilford and Banbridge, moved the short distance to its second and final home Banford Green, in 1969. In 2017, the club merged with Donaghcloney Cricket Club under the name Donaghcloney Mill Cricket Club. Having spent most of its years in the lower leagues, Millpark's golden era was in the late 1990s and early 2000s when Irish Internationals, David Dennison, and brothers Alan and Noel Nelson returned to their boyhood club from near neighbours Waringstown CC. These years saw the club win NCU Section 4 (undefeated in the league), gain promotion again the following year, and share the prestigious NCU Junior Cup in 1999.
