Civil Service North of Ireland Cricket Club (CSNICC, formally Civil Service & North of Ireland Cricket Club and often referred to as Civil Service North or C.S.N.I.) is a cricket club in Belfast, Northern Ireland, playing in the Premier League of the NCU Senior League. The club was formed in 2004 as a merger of Civil Service Cricket Club and North of Ireland Cricket Club, the latter of which had originally folded in 2001 to merge with North of Ireland Football Club, Collegians R.F.C., Collegians Hockey Club and the Belfast Bowling Club as Belfast Harlequins. The former North cricketers, however, were dissatisfied with the Harlequins pitch at Deramore and an inability to attract new players, and decided to merge with Civil Service (first having briefly to reform the North of Ireland Club), playing its first season in 2005. Belfast Harlequins
Belfast Harlequins is a multi-sports club located off the Malone Road in south Belfast, Northern Ireland. The club name provides the overall umbrella for rugby union, men's and ladies' hockey, and squash. The club is associated on and off the field with Methodist College Belfast (MCB). Background of the club Belfast Harlequins was formed in 1999 with the merger of Collegians, North of Ireland Cricket Club and North of Ireland Football Club. The former clubs were three of the oldest and most distinguished clubs in Ireland. "North" sold its famous ground at Ormeau – one of the earliest international rugby venues – to pay for the redevelopment of the Deramore Park facilities. The club uses a version of the Maltese cross that MCB uses as its sports logo, with the colours being those of navy, sky blue, red and maroon. The NCU Junior Cup is a provincial cricket knock-out cup of the NCU jurisdiction in Ireland. The competition began in 1891 and is open to teams playing in the Sections 2 and 3 of the NCU Senior League and Section 1 of the NCU Junior League (which is made up of 2nd XI teams of senior clubs). It is sponsored by Goldblatt McGuigan. Matches consist of one innings per side, with fifty overs bowled per innings. Ulster Cup (cricket)
The Ulster Cup was a knock-out cricket competition in Ireland run jointly by the Northern Cricket Union and the North West Cricket Union. The top eight teams in the previous season's NCU Premier League and North West Senior League 1 were eligible to take part. Matches are of 40 overs duration, but may be reduced to ten overs where delays or interruptions necessitate. The NCU Challenge Cup, also called the NCU Senior Challenge Cup and the NCU Senior Cup, is the most important provincial cricket knock-out cup of the NCU jurisdiction in Ireland. The competition began in 1887, with eleven clubs participating in the first competition, North Down eventually beating North of Ireland in the final at Ormeau. Collegians (Belfast)
Collegians was a sports club for former pupils of Methodist College Belfast. In the 109-year history of the club, it had rugby union, cricket, hockey, basketball, and athletics sections. The cricket section merged with Cooke Cricket Club in 1998 to form Cooke Collegians, and the remainder of the club is now called Belfast Harlequins after a merger with the North of Ireland Football Club in 1999. Collegians was the name for rugby union, hockey and cricket sections. The rugby club celebrated its centenary in 1990. The ladies' hockey section commenced play under the Collegians name in 1896 until around 1906 and then they played for many years on a non-competitive basis under the name of Methodist College Old Girls. The ladies resumed play under the Collegians name in 1942. The Collegians men's hockey section was much younger, commencing play in 1967. It is situated in the grounds of the Stormont Estate, the seat of government in Northern Ireland, and is the home of Civil Service North of Ireland Cricket Club.
