NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy
The NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-ITA) is a multi-national corps headquarters of the Italian Army. It was established in November 2001 as a High Readiness Force (HRF) of NATO. The staff of NRDC-ITA is located in Solbiate Olona, a few kilometers northwest of Milan. History In 1997, in the wake of a major restructuring of the Italian Army, the 3rd Army Corps was transformed into the Projection Forces Command (COMFOP) in command and control of three brigades, which were characterized by high mobility and deployability. However already on 1 December 2000 the 3rd Army Corps ceded its last brigades to the 1st Defence Forces Command (COMFOD 1°) and with its personnel the NATO Rapid Deployable Italian Corps was raised in January 2001. The 33rd Logistic and Tactical Support Regiment "Ambrosiano" ( it, 33° Reggimento Supporto Tattico e Logistico "Ambrosiano") is a military logistics regiment of the Italian Army based in Solbiate Olona in Lombardy. 1st Signal Regiment (Italy)
The 1st Signal Regiment ( it, 1° Reggimento Trasmissioni) is a deployable signals regiment of the Italian Army based in Milan in Lombardy. In 1906 the unit was formed in Rome as a detached brigade of the 3rd Engineer Regiment (Telegraphers) and tasked with training the army's wireless telegraphy personnel. In 1912 the unit was tasked to train the wireless telegraphy personnel of the Military Aviation Corps. In 1919 the battalion was expanded to Radio-Telegraphers Engineer Regiment, which in 1926 split to form the 1st Radio-Telegraphers Regiment and 2nd Radio-Telegraphers Regiment. Both regiment were disbanded in 1932. The unit was reformed in 1948 as a battalion. In 1950 the battalion was given number III, which had been used by two battalions active during World War II. NRDC-ITA Support Brigade
The NRDC-ITA Support Brigade is one of two support brigades of the Italian Army. Originally raised on 1 October 2001 as Signal Brigade (renamed NRDC-ITA Support Brigade on 30 September 2007) the unit's mission since its inception has been to support the NATO-assigned Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-ITA). Unlike the multi-national staff of the NRDC-ITA the brigade is manned exclusively by Italian personnel. The brigade deployed to Afghanistan in 2006, 2009 and 2013.
