Nythe, Eldene And Liden
Nythe, Eldene and Liden is a civil parish in the eastern suburbs of the town of Swindon, England. In addition to the residential areas of Nythe (in the north), Eldene and Liden (southwest and southeast), the parish has the Dorcan industrial area. History and governance The Ordnance Survey map of 1948 shows the area as farmland. In the 1960s, as part of Swindon's eastward expansion, the entire area became a privately built housing estate. Following a Community Governance Review in 2013, Nythe obtained independence from Stratton St Margaret, becoming a parish in its own right with effect from 1 April 2015. After a further review in 2016, the parish was extended to include Eldene and Liden, which were previously unparished areas; from 1 April 2017 the name of the parish is Nythe, Eldene and Liden. North Swindon is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Justin Tomlinson, a Conservative. History North Swindon was created in 1997 and has been a bellwether since then. The Borough of Swindon is a local government authority in South West England, centred on the urban area and town of Swindon and forming part of the ceremonial county of Wiltshire. History In 1974 the Thamesdown district of Wiltshire was created from the areas of the municipal borough of Swindon (created 1900) and Highworth Rural District (created 1894). Dorcan is an area in the east of Swindon, Wiltshire, England, located close to the A419 (). The population of Dorcan electoral ward taken at the 2011 census was 8,684. Taking its name from the nearby ''Dorkerne'' (now ''Dorcan'') brook, Dorcan is within the civil parish of Nythe, Eldene and Liden, and is bounded to the north by Covingham parish. It is the site of the Dorcan Industrial Estate which includes the UK headquarters of Tyco Electronics and offices of Npower (UK), Equiinet, MMG MagDev, Romec, House of Fraser (information systems) and a Royal Mail sorting office. Unparished Area
In England, an unparished area is an area that is not covered by a civil parish (the lowest level of local government, not to be confused with an ecclesiastical parish). Most urbanised districts of England are either entirely or partly unparished. Many towns and some cities in otherwise rural districts are also unparished areas and therefore no longer have a town council or city council, and are instead directly managed by a higher local authority such as a district or county council. Until the mid-nineteenth century there had been many areas that did not belong to any parish, known as extra-parochial areas. Acts of Parliament between 1858 and 1868 sought to abolish such areas, converting them into parishes or absorbing them into neighbouring parishes. They are constituted under the Local Government Act 1992, which amended the Local Government Act 1972 to allow the existence of counties that do not have multiple districts. River Cole, Wiltshire
The River Cole is a tributary of the River Thames in England which flows through Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, forming part of the border between the two counties. Course The river rises in Swindon, west of the town centre in the Walcot area. Much of its upper course has been culverted and built over; it can be seen east of the Greenbridge retail park, which it flows through in a northeasterly direction. From there it is culverted, across to Slade Drive where it turns southeast for about three quarters of a mile. At the Piccadilly roundabout it turns abruptly east and skirts the Coleview Estate. It flows east past Covingham and under Merlin Way, through a flood marsh and out under the A419 road.
