Nykhaz
Nykhaz ( os, Ныхас, Nykhas, lit=Meeting, Speech) is a political party in South Ossetia founded in 2013 by supporters of Independent president Leonid Tibilov. History The party was founded by Alan Alborov, former mayor of Tskhinvali. By the 2014 South Ossetian parliamentary election, in which the party won four seats, the party's leader was Ruslan Gagloyev. Although officially an Independent, the party has been associated with then President Leonid Tibilov, with this association continuing even after him leaving office in 2017. Gagloyev initially ran as the party's candidate for president in 2017. However, he would be disqualified and endorsed Tibilov. In the lead up to the 2019 South Ossetian parliamentary election the ''New Ossetia'' party led by David Sanakoyev and the ''Alanian Union'' led by Alan Gagloev merged into Nykhaz, with Sanakoyev becoming the new party leader. Alan Eduardovich Gagloev ( os, Гаглойты Эдуарды фырт Алан, Gaglojty Edwardy fyrt Alan; russian: Алан Эдуардович Гаглоев; born 6 February 1981), also transliterated as Gagloyev, is a South Ossetian politician and former intelligence officer, who is the current president of South Ossetia since 2022. He is also the current chairman of the Nykhaz party since 2020. Early life Alan Gagloev was born on 6 February 1981, in Tskhinvali. He graduated from the South Ossetian State University in 2002 and was hired by the Ministry of Economic Development of South Ossetia as the chief specialist of the department for supporting small and medium-sized businesses. He fought in the Russo-Georgian War in 2008. 2022 South Ossetian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in the disputed territory of South Ossetia on 10 April 2022. As none of the presidential nominees obtained at least 50% of the votes, a runoff was held on 8 May 2022, between the top two candidates, Alan Gagloyev and incumbent president Anatoly Bibilov. Prior to the run-off, Gagloyev received endorsements from the three candidates eliminated in the first round, Alexandr Pliyev, Garri Muldarov, and Dmitry Tasoyev, heading into the runoff against incumbent president Anatoly Biblov. Gagloyev went on to win with 56.1% of the vote, while Bibilov conceded defeat on the election night. Electoral system The election is held using the two-round system; a candidate would be declared the winner if they received over 50% of the vote in the first round. Zita Grigorievna Besayeva is a South Ossetian politician who has been a member of the Parliament of South Ossetia since 2014. Following the election of Alan Gagloev as President of South Ossetia, she has served as the chairwoman of the ruling Nykhaz party since February 2023. Alanian Union was a minor political party that existed in the partially recognized Caucasian republic of South Ossetia following the 2017 South Ossetian presidential election to its merger into Nykhaz for the 2019 South Ossetian parliamentary election. Parliament Of South Ossetia
The Parliament of South Ossetia is the unicameral legislature of the partially recognized Republic of South Ossetia. The 34 members of parliament are elected using a mixed system of Party-list proportional representation (17) and single-member districts (17). South Ossetia has a multi-party system, and currently 5 political parties are represented in parliament and has 6 independent MPs elected through single-member districts. The parliament is headed by a speaker, who is elected from among the members. Since 15 september 2022 the speaker of parliament is Alan Alborov, one of the four deputees of the Nykhaz party of president Alan Gagloev, after Alan Tadtaev of United Ossetia was forced to resign.
