Nyberg Automobile
Nyberg was the name of a brass era American automobile built by Henry Nyberg of Chicago, Illinois, in Anderson, Indiana, and Chattanooga, Tennessee from 1911 to 1914. History Henry Nyberg was born in 1872 in Hellvi on Gotland island, Sweden. He graduated from the Technical School in Malmo, and emigrated to the United States via Canada shortly thereafter. He built his first automobile in 1898 and established Nyberg Automobile Works in 1899. He lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin until 1902, and did work for Thomas B. Jeffery Company. Nyberg Works - Chicago, Illinois In 1903, Nyberg moved his workshop to Chicago on East 18th Street. With an investor named Waller, he built the Nyberg or Nyberg-Waller single-cylinder runabout automobile and in 1904 moved to a bigger building on South Michigan Avenue, which was also known as Automobile Row. Halladay (automobile)
The Halladay Motor Car company was founded in 1905 in Streator, Illinois, and moved to Ohio in 1917. Origins The company originated with the Erie Motor Carriage & Manufacturing Company in Anderson, Indiana, which was bought out in 1902 by Lou P. Halladay. He spent a year earning $30,000 in capital, then renamed the company the Streator Automobile & and Manufacturing Company. The company kept this name until 1913. Streator Automobile & and Manufacturing Company The first car came out in 1904 with great secrecy. It was a five-passenger touring car with a four-cylinder engine. The engines came from the Rutenber Motor Company. In 1908, the company added a runabout and a limousine. About 900 cars were made every year. The cars were well-built. Harry Endicott
Harry Endicott (June 16, 1881 – September 5, 1913) was an American racecar driver. He was the brother of fellow Indianapolis 500 participant "Farmer" Bill Endicott. He was especially good at road course racing. Endicott was killed in a dirt oval practice crash in 1913. Biography He was born on June 16, 1881, in Frankfort, Indiana to William M. Endicott. He was the younger brother to Bill Endicott. Racing career Endicott followed his brother Bill into racing in 1904. He started racing in the American Automobile Association Contest Board Champ Car series in 1910. Endicott entered two races at the Elgin Road Race Course with a best finish of 8th place. Rutenber Motor Company
The Rutenber Motor Company was established as the Rutenber Manufacturing Company in Chicago, Illinois, United States, to manufacture a four-cylinder engine to the design of Edwin Rutenber. History Rutenber studied the trade of mechanics and, about 1892, built a single-cylinder engine. By 1898, he produced the first four-cylinder engine to be manufactured in the United States. A six-horsepower, single-cylinder engine was used by Frank Eckhart in his 1900 prototype car that was the seed for the Auburn which used Rutenber engines until about 1923. In 1902, Rutenber relocated his company, renamed the Western Motor Company, to Logansport, Indiana. Excelsior Motor Manufacturing & Supply Company was an American motorcycle manufacturer operating in Chicago from 1907 to 1931. It was purchased by Ignaz Schwinn, proprietor of bicycle manufacturer Arnold, Schwinn & Co. in 1912. In 1912, an Excelsior was the first motorcycle to be officially timed at a speed of 100 mph. The Henderson Motorcycle Company became a division of Excelsior when Schwinn purchased Henderson in 1917. By 1928, Excelsior was in third place in the U.S. motorcycle market behind Indian and Harley-Davidson. The Great Depression convinced Schwinn to order Excelsior's operations to cease in September 1931. Touring car and tourer are both terms for open cars (i.e. cars without a fixed roof). "Touring car" is a style of open car built in the United States which seats four or more people. The style was popular from the early 1900s to the 1930s. The cars used for touring car racing in various series since the 1960s, are unrelated to these early touring cars, despite sharing the same name. "Tourer" is used in British English for any open car.
